Brooklyn diner. Burger or death? I choose death

Tonight my wingman and I decided to go to the Brooklyn diner on Soi Buakhao as it was a short walk from our hotel and we were feeling lazy.

My wingman ordered spring rolls and I ordered a Bacon burger. Now please take into account that I am from the UK and used to crappy burgers as this story unfolds.

My wingmans spring rolls arrive and look ok, however that is where his luck ran out, he ate the first one and had that look of disdain that I have seen a few times from him when he has bad food. He asked me to try one which I did. As I bit into this spring roll I crunched as expected but then I started chewing on this spring roll and all I could taste was cabbage, it was disgusting, I then looked at the content of the spring roll WTF there was peas in it!!!!! When did peas become part of a spring roll?

Five minutes pass and my bacon burger and chips arrive. It didnt look great, the chips (french fries) were barely cooked and looked very pale rather than a golden brown. I opened the burger to add the onion, gherkin (pickle), tomato, cucumber, mayo and ketchup. The bun whis was toasted was oversized compared to the burger, there were three pathetic excuses that some might call bacon, and a slice of melted cheese. I loaded the burger with the previously mentioned condiments and took  bite out of it. Not only was it the crappiest burger patty I have ever tasted, it was so overcooked It would have bounced it off the floor and it would have probably damaged the floor. I then asked my wingman to try it just to make sure I wasnt being over picky about this, he took a bite and confirmed it was indeed totally disgusting. I then took apart this burger and picked up the steak knife that was on the table and tried to cut the patty. I am not joking when I say I could not cut into the burger with the steak knife without putting a lot of pressure onto it and I mean a lot of pressure.

I can honestly say with my hand on my heart that the spring rolls were one worst I have ever tasted and the burger was by far and away the worst I have ever tasted in my entire life, it truly was revolting.

To give something back to the Brooklyn diner and not be totally negative about it completely, they opened my can of coke light well and poured it into the glass without spilling any on the table

The judge has spoken and passed judgement

Were there many other diners in the place when you arrived? Can be a clue as to quality of the food.

If you're after a good burger read this thread:

http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/forum/topic/159824-best-burgers-in-town/?hl=burger

you could probably add to the post after trying a few more burgers around town.

When that place first opened we stopped by and looked at the menu outside. I was thinking with a name like Brooklyn Diner there would be deli sandwiches and other types of New York style grub. It was what I call the "default Pattaya menu." Just the same dishes a lot of the other restaurants serve around town.

Nothing "Brooklyn" about it at all.

I asked a waitress where the owner was from and she said some European country. I don't remember which, but I think it was Austria. I guess he just fancied the sound of "Brooklyn Diner."

That told me all I needed to know and we gave it a pass. After you've lived here for a while you can spot the losers from the starting gate.

With that being said, somebody posted a picture of one of  their pizzas on here a few weeks ago and it looked pretty good.

Of course there maybe more than one owner of this place but the one I know has a hell of an American accent for an Austrian.

Or the waitress really didn't know the answer to the question and just tossed out the name of a European country. That's most likely the case.

Can't figure how they managed to get a burger with 120% filler. I suspect Guinness will be calling them shortly. Having said that, the pizza's there were ok the last time we dined there. I agree that there is nothing Brooklyn about this place.

I'm the op's wing-man BTW.

i'd rather eat a fishes face than a steak and kidney pie

Hi!

This is the owner of the place.

First of all, thank you for bringing your issues to my attention. I will investigate and try to find out what went wrong ...

We aim at bringing you the best food for a reasonable price, but obviously we can also make mistakes. I will double check on the recipes for the spring rolls, and also check the processes of the burger ....

Attention!

From today, we will start the renovation and redecoration of the premise!
We will completely rebuild the restaurant room, make some improvements in the kitchen, and redo the front and the signage!

In the next (probably about 3) weeks we will be open daily only from 2pm to 3 AM, for deliveries and take-always only!

We will have to close the kitchen completely for 2 or 3 days during this process, I will announce this period a day or two in advance!

We will also use this time to work on recipes and routines with the chefs and service, and redo our menu.
Once we reopen fully, we will extend our opening times to 9 AM and also offer breakfasts!

Stay tuned!

PS: Once reopened, we will also honour the PA Membership cards, given their holders a 10% discount on in-house food!

Shooters: Soi Diamond, first bar on the right coming from 2nd Road, opposite Casino Club! Open daily 7pm till (very) late.

Going by his board name, I think I know who he is.

If my assumption is correct, he used to be a partner in the old Shooters hostess bar on Soi Diamond and his name in Manfred. He also has an accent that sounds German or Austrian.

If I'm correct, I want a prize.

I am Austrian, if that matters.

Started this restaurant together with an AMerican Partner, who is still pulling strings in the background, but does not want to be fronting it.

We have now started renovating the place, the guest room and the front.

We will remain closed until this Thursday (22nd), and open for take-away and delivery orders from Friday. We expect to fully open by the end of this Month.

An honourable draw sir, there is one Austrian and one American owner. Of course you, being American yourself, may think it an honorable draw.

    • Hi Guys

As many of you know we have been running now for 16 years and apart from one brief time when we were allowed PayPal, so could use the inbuilt donation function, we have tried to avoid asking for donations. We have certainly avoided being in anyones face about it.

      Sadly that has now changed.

The forum currently costs around $900 a month to operate. That includes Bangkok and Philippines but PA makes up the vast majority of it. This fee covers forum hosting, image hosting, notification emails and support.

Before anyone says "its expensive" please be aware we have tried for years to find better for cheaper - it just doesn't exist for the size we are. Also a lot of hosts wont Touch us anyway. Our current host is actually cheaper than the previous one but that brings its own problems.

      Moving on -

I would like to stress there is NO obligation whatsoever. Also, whatever happens the forum is going no-where!

Donators can CHOOSE to have their donation listed (probably in this thread or we can make a new one) or to remain anonymous. Likewise they can CHOOSE whether the amount is published or not.

There is no minimum, or maximum for that matter. ANY donation will be very gratefully received. We are very aware that many members are also having it tough these days.

We are still unable to promote/post PayPal addresses etc on the forum so would ask that anyone who would like to make a donation to PM me, or ask me here to PM you and we will sort out details via that PM.
