Suffered for years, for the period during the attack you need Colchincine, after the attack Allopurinol, this info came from a NHS specialist on the subject. See your GP. If you take Allopurinol during the attack it can make this worse.

Now it's Allopurinol every day, I eat and drink whatever, no probs.

Hope this helps.

A friend of mine drinks whatever he wants. He takes Apple Cider Vinegar once a day. Never had a problem since he started taking it

I thought gout was port not beer??

My Pattaya budget is perfectly adequate as long as I don't spend any of it

I used to have bad attacks until a few years ago before I started on Allopurinol 100mg daily. Not had any bad ones since but also take the odd colchicine when the joints feel like an attack is coming on which usually happens in Thailand, probably due to dehydration.

Nobody really know what starts gout off.

I took 200 ml allypurinol and still got it. My doctor retested my blood.

Now I am on 300 ml and have never had it since. Saved my life. I know some people on a much higher dosage.

The baking soda works. True nobody really knows what sets it off, but just to deal with it when it happens. Beer is one of the "known" elements to set off a flair up.

Good thing here in Pattaya is that you can get a test for like $10-$12 to get your uric acid levels tested. I do it to track if it is a goat attack or something else. I feel for you, really, when it hits..it hurts!

Gout/Arthritis pain increases with pressure applied to the lower limb joints.

Obese people  apply more pressure to their joints by carrying more weight.

Solution = Lose Weight.

depends on how severe your gout is , some people like me only have flare ups a few times in a year , i handle mine when i get the first twitch , diclofenic iboprofen , green tea with ginger and lots of cherry juice or fresh cherries and stay off the beer , usually flushes everything through in about 3-4 days , other people such as a friend i know has to take tablets daily ,

diet is also a thing to consider , stay away from things like asparagus or kidneys , what can also kick off an attack is a sudden loss of weight , i usually get an attack within 3-4 weeks of being back in work after my hols , as i am drinking less and moving more

"And were you pleased?" they asked Helen in Hell.

"Pleased?" answered she,when all Troy's towers fell;

And dead were Priam´s sons, and lost his throne?

And such a war was fought as none had known;

And even the Gods took part; and all because

Of me alone! Pleased?

I should say I was!"

I had a serious gout problem. Chronic.  I'm an avid beer drinker also. Beer is bad for gout: it increases the uric acid and/or purines in the blood and it reduces elimination of them.

Vodka and Rum are OK to drink, according to several gout sites.

But to prevent gout I have done the following and it's worked for me:

1. 1/2 teaspoon of baking soda in 4 oz. of water per day in the AM right after getting up and in the PM right before bed. This alkalizes the blood.

2. I drink 3-5 liters of water throughout the day. This eliminates the uric acid in the blood as you pee it out.

These two worked for me 95% of the time, but I still had an occasional bad gout attack.

So I then did

3. Take 150 mg of Allopurinol per day.

Since then nor problems and I can eat and drink what I want.

one more question. does excessive consumption of viagra cause gout attacks.

i take allupurinol everyday and generally do not get any gout attacks but i want to share an experience, one day after i landed in pattaya i had a foot massage and the same evening i had a flare up and i wonder why.

Allopurinol made me 100% free of gout.

Problem was, in the US, Thailand and other Asian countries, when I'd go to the doctor because of a massive gout attack, they would give me pain-killers and anti-inflamms to help reduce the pain and make it go away, but ignored the prevention aspect - allopurinol.

US docs want a few uric acid blood tests and are covering their asses on prescribing drugs.

I finally just went and did my own research on the web, forums and talking with other gout sufferers on Allopurinol and started taking it OTC. Never had a problem.

Would  'Allopurinol'  ease the Arthritic pain that i get in my ankles?

I have been taking 4 x 400mg  Ibuprufen tablets per day but they aren't working well enough  for me.

never went to a doctor in Thailand, simply went to any pharmacy and asked for allopurinol . And vastly cheaper than in Canada.

I can't imagine why I suffered for years, when allopurinol was available to me! And the colchison and indomethison is very hard on the stomach.

Yes, I finally went OTC in Thailand.  Over-the-Counter and cheap.

I suffered for year, unnecessarily.  This was mostly my fault.

I've taken a lot of Indomethason, colchicine and NSAIDs. Not good over time, even if you only use it with food when you have a attack.

The US doctors insisted some some regular blood tests to see what my average uric acid level was - but the UA level can go up and down b/c of diet, stress, and other factors.  Dense doctors.  Dense as hell.

Now, I'm fine.
