Recently been spending some time looking at Thai meals which I would like to try on my next trip. My question is do Thais have a specialist breakfast? Never really noticed anything suggesting they did on my last trip. Or do they just eat rice, fruit, etc all day.

My tgf loves to eat chinese sausage when we wake up, but maybe that's only because i'm chinese. :P:GrinNod1:

Khaw Tom (rice soup usually with pork) is probably the most common breakfast dish.

I had a rice, soup-like "Thai breakfast" dish that should have been a brunch appetizer at best. Still not a fan of rice, but I am really not doing it for breakfast. :P (anymore, at least)

Jok, pronounced joke, is like a rice porridge. It can come with chicken, gai, or pork, moo, or eggs, khai. You will also get the usual condiments. The breakfast buffet at the Majestic Grande in Bangkok serves it. I wasn't sure at first, but found that I liked it.

You can't always get what you want but if you try, sometimes you might find that you get what you need.

Actually, it's Congee in Cantonese, and Shee Fan in Mandarin. Literally "thin rice" as in watery thin, not skinny thin.

here a good morning food for you... rice and se ui kaw ( white soy sauce ).. with a boil egg..and some tuna. mix together with bare hands.. roll up into a ball.. and boom an all day meal.... snap.. that bring back some good ass memories.... :P

My TGF likes noodle soup and fruits in the morning. And I started to like that too. Tastes really good at least if you can choose for yourself how spicy the dish should be for you.

Speaking of breakfast---do you eat breakfast everyday? I have not eaten breakfast in years. Coffee, vegi juice, but no solid food for breakfast. Perhaps it is my work schedule since I dont finish work and get home until 9 or 10 at night.

Khao Tom or Rice Soup

 

Pad Krapow gai/moo garp kai dhow - stir fried minced pork or chicken with basil leaves served on rice with a fried egg on top. Its SPICY so only have it if you can handle red hot food early.
