Has anyone stayed at the Federal on Soi 11? I checked it out before I left last time but did not see a room. I love the location and the food there is awesome and cheap! The rooms look to be inexpenesive, no safe in room but safe deposit boxes downstairs. Looking forward to the next trip. Any info is appreciated.

Originally built as a short time hotel back in the mid 1960s, The Federal hotel now enjoys a large and loyal following of mostly repeated visitors, from all walks of life, and a sprinkling of expats.

However, be forewarned, The Federal is clean, but it is cheap. You'll find cigarette burn holes in the bedspreads. Food will be served, especially when you order room service, on chipped and/or mis-matched tableware, etc., etc., etc. The forks are so cheap that if you press hard they will bend.

On the other hand, as I said, it is clean, they are very girlfriend friendly, the food is good, the pool is nice, and the staff are some of the nicest people I've met in Thailand.

The owners rarely spend much on the rooms, but have in recent years painted the place and put in a new counter in the lobby.

I have fond memories of The Federal, but have moved on to other, shall we say, more upscale hotels. :10:

You could better than The Federal, but you could easily do a lot worst.

I was just looking at their rates and they are asking 1,200 to 1,500 and don't explain the difference. It would not be worth 1,500 Baht a night IMHO, but Bangkok hotel rates have drastically increased in the last couple of years.

Thanks for the response, I know I thought I could get by a lot cheaper than Grand President. Any other suggestions for that area?

The Swiss Park is on the same soi as the Federal and is reckoned to be one of the best deals around at the moment.

Alternatively, you could try the Honey hotel on Soi 19 - it's run by the same owners as the Federal but has always been a bit cheaper.

I stayed in the Honey hotel in November 06. It was ok. 1000 a night and not too far from Soi Cowboy or Nana area. Although the bar at the end of the road (Country Roads) is a great place too. Had my 1st Thai lady out of there.

I stayed there a few times. The 1200 rooms have Twin beds and the more expensive ones have double beds. Actually, the Federal has a few rooms for 800 baht. The 800 baht rooms have no windows. They are on the left side, facing the outside of the building. I had one look and declined. Their food and drink prices have gone up a fair bit as well.

Brings back a few memories. Stayed at Federal in 1976 on my first trip to LOS. Walked down the halls with a few woodies knowing I would soon be boning the nights BF. I think LT was 300 baht in those days.

Yeah. The Manhattan Soi 15. A friend just told me they are asking 1250 a night single. I am going to call them & ask the room rates.
