Boomerang Bar and Guesthouse (close to LK Metro)

Stayed here recently after I had seen it on the board. Room I had was A1 and cost was 1100 baht (high season, low season it is 1000). Not far from my usual haunt of gogos and bars around LK Metro and Soi Bhua Khaow and Benjamit Coffee (a must for me every day smile.png ). Transport wise very easy 50m walk to soi bhua khaow and catching a baht bus to Walking Street.

Overall I really really liked this place. Very little to be critical of.

Some observations:
Room really large and spacious;
Has mood type lighting (blue) which I really like if I am with a girl;
Separate bathroom is excellent, american shower with excellent water pressure and no problems with hot water;
Has a lounge area in the room with dvd player and big tv;
Aircon and fan (aircon is very efficient, had a few problems working out how to use it especially when I staggered home around 4.30am);
Small balcony for smoking.
Large fridge, microwave and coffee facilities;
Lots of cupboards and a makeup type mirror with a light;
Laundry facilities in-house which were inexpensive which I liked;
7/11 only 100 meters away (for you americans about 110 yards smile.png );
Stairs easily negotiated no matter how drunk I was or how bad my knee was playing up;
Easy walk to the back of the Avenue on 2nd road.

Cons:
Safe is a little small and you wouldn't get a laptop in it.
Some construction work going on near it but not too much noise and certainly didn't affect me.
No free water provided (not an issue for me as I always buy myself 4-5 litres a day but I know some people like to get a couple of free bottles).

What I loved about the place
1. I have stayed in many many low to medium cost accommodation in Patts but without doubt the bed I had at the Boomerang was the most comfortable. I am going to buy one for my home!
2. Michael and his lovely wife and other staff there were all incredibly helpful and friendly. Nothing was too much trouble. Michael even let me use his computer and printer to do an early check in for my flight and print my boarding pass. A friend of mine is also staying there in a few weeks and Michael was also good enough to mind a calendar I bought him and will give it to him when he gets there.

Thanks for your review and pic's Tarl.

I will be staying in one of the budget rooms later this month.

Looking forward to it.

As long as it is quiet at night, I don't care about the construction nosie during the day as I am an early riser.Good to hear the bed is comfy.

Cheers

Thanks for the review and pictures. I am staying here in June for 2 weeks looks like I made a good choice.

As long as it is quiet at night,....

I stayed here and also thought it was good value but I had a room I think on the second level and the noise from the gogo bars nearby was very loud.  I felt like the bed was vibrating until the music stopped a bit past 2am.  This not a drama if you are going to bed after that time.

I guess that the noise would dissipate as you go up floors.

Edit:  I got it wrong.  Haven't stayed here.  Got Boomerang confused with Billabong.  Should know the difference being an Aussie.  Shame on me.  Will try the Boomerang on my next trip.

Hard to go wrong staying here, think you will really like the rooms and location. Eat Well restaurant is close by and has great food as well.

Sounds great. How's the Wifi?

i'd rather eat a fishes face than a steak and kidney pie

Hi Mognam, you might be talking about the Billabong in LK Metro. Boomerang is easy walking to them but not next to the gogos and their noise.

Apologies, I should have said there is free wifi. In my room it was excellent.

Yes.  You are right.  I got it wrong.  Have edited my original post.  Sorry for any confusion I may have created.

All good, I have stayed at Billabong as well and kept referring to the Boomerang as it while I was there :)

For the moment there's a lot of construction noise from inside or an adjacant building. It feels like they are drilling/hacking inside your room. I'm a heavy sleeper, but I'm thinking about moving because it's impossible to sleep through... :-(

It's not the construction noise outside the building, that noise is bearable...

I am currently staying at Boomerang guest house, my last 7-8 trips always stayed at Areca Lodge Soi Diana so was a big change of type of accommodation but also a big drop in cost. I have already booked again for August, same room type (middle size). I was met by Tina on arrival and made to feel at home straight away, I have now also briefly met Michael who is a very nice guy. Yes the place is very new so everything is very pristine but I already sense it will remain so. I can only highly recommend Boomerang and its location for me is ideal.

Seems good, if one walks to WS how long on foot and if one should take bhat bus how long? :GoldenSmile1:

I would guess it takes between 15 to 20 minutes to stroll to Walking Street. A baht bus takes 5 to 7 minutes depending on traffic

The judge has spoken and passed judgement

Looks amazing value. Gonna stay closer to Walking Street next trip. But this looks like a contender for best value guesthouse.

Just as a bit of extra info, foodwise try Eat Well opposite 18 Coins which is about 100 m on the left up sio bhua khao I really enjoyed the food there. Down the end of soi bhua khao towards Tukcom they have markets, diagonally across the middle of them is Benjamit Coffee. Best coffee I have had in Thailand and I walk there for my cuppa every morning.

The website picture only shows a bed and wardrobe.

I stayed in one of the standard rooms last year, its pretty much as it looks on the website. Comfy bed , good aircon ,wardrobe, safe, fridge and a kettle, 32 inch LCD, and a nice clean shower room. A nice touch is that even the budget room had dimmer lights. Really good value for 500-600 baht. As far as I can see the economy room is the same as the standard, but doesn't have the rainfall shower enclosure.
