I overstayed by a couple of days once , you pay the fine as you leave and that's it , no issues returning

If it floats, flies or fucks It's probably cheaper to rent ...

money number 1..pay fine and repeat as necessary

yes, how do you "accidentally" overstay???

I lost my passport and ended up overstaying one month. I paid 15,000 baht at the airport when I left and was allowed back in next trip no problem. As long as you have the baht to pay the fine when you leave their happy. I don't know what would happen to people who can't pay the fine. Anybody know what happens?

I'm still wondering how you forget what day you're going home, & miss your flight (guessing mode of transport) by nearly 3 weeks  :)

I've overstayed loads of time. Don't worry at all

Overstayed last time by 8 days.

They charge 500baht per day with the max threshold of 20,000Baht with no issues returning.

I asked all the questions while I was paying the fine.

And since have returned back to Patts with no issues

I have over stayed loads of times from between 2-10 days never any problem returning to Thailand

The Thai authority's love it on the quiet extra baht for jack shit

Overstayed once and got the dates mixed up. I thought I was two days over and had a 1000 baht note ready but it was four days. Fortunately the kind officer allowed me to pay in another currency but unfortunately he had no change.

5 years ago when I was visiting the ex, I wanted to spend an extra few days with her so I went to immigration in Bangkok and had a one week extension and paid the fee.

I'm sure many will have no problems with having multiple overstay fines, but I like to be safe. You never know what Thailand immigration will change or do on a whim. Who knows if having multiple overstay fines will affect the ability for you to stay long time in Thailand.

11 years ago I accidently overstayed by 2 weeks. It's easy of miss your departure when you're having too good a time. The fine was only 200 baht per day back then. It has never caused a problem for me.

so you "accidentally missed" your flight BY TWO WEEKS. Because you had a great time. Now I would LOVE to read about those weeks

But on topic: I don't think the problem is so much at the airport. Mostly you pay up and that's it. The danger is when you are picked up by e.g. police in the meantime or have an accident or something. Then it might get ugly, depending on the mood of the person in charge...

I arrived middle of July (17th I think) returned the same date in Aug ( ie. 17th), didn't allow for 31 day month so 1 day overstay, everybody told me 500baht fine no problem. At the airport I didn't mention it but got pulled anyway, an entry was made in my passport but no fine to pay. Have been back for New Year and no problem. Thats got to be a first :Think1:

They dont charge you for 1 day overstay but will charge for 2 days+, so really the minimum fine is 1000bht for 2 days overstay. 1 day just gets an entry in your passport but nothing to pay.

well my dad brother over stayed in thailand in 2006 more than 8 months,

he got arrested when flying out and was kept until some one in my family had paid some fine, and arrange travel.

but he got arrested 4 to 6 times before in pattaya with no money or passport, and only stayed in monkey house a few days.

thai BIB or other officals did not bother with him because he had no money,

he enterd thailand again with no ploblem what so ever

i think if they see you have some baht to pay they will hassle you, if not you pass

just my thought

Well I was on the way to the airport with another traveler who was on the same van as I was, we became friends and we went through customs and immigration at the Bangkok Airport, well low and behold all of a sudden he disappeared like for 30 minutes or so, I was wondering what ever happened to him, well I finally decided to relax at on the way to my flight gate and low and behold my friend show up all cheesed off, I asked him what happened, he starts off by saying well its my fault I over stayed by 15 days so they fined me 500 Bahts per day so I am out 7500 bahts and he said he ran to his ATM to get the cash. Later he mentioned he never realized he overstayed by so many days, guess he was having a great time and never realized it.

No you dont need to worry about returning to Thailand, your always welcome dear tourists, this is a great source of income for the Thai government, so why wouldnt they want you to return?

What year did the 30 day tourist visa start and how long a time could a tourist stay in Thailamd before that?

Posted

Well you guys can continue to overstay and pay your fines. I'm sure you'll be fine forever, and I'm just one of those over cautious fools.

Me? I like to play by the RULES and be safe. You just never know what could happen in the future. I myself would never advise anyone to take chances or make light of RULES and penalties in any country.

Ok, visa run to the Cambodian border may be different. At the airport they dont charge for only 1 day unless RULES changed.

So they do lock you up and make you miss your flight unless you can pay. You'd think they would just let you catch your flight, flag your passport and make you pay it if you return. It could be worse though, I know in Japan if you overstay 1 day they lock you up for 23 days and ban you from re-entry for 5 years.

If I overstay my visa, not only can I be fined, but I'll have to pay another plane ticket as well. No thanks! I make sure to leave Pattaya, and Thailand, on time.
