Free Navigation Software for your Mobile

Nokia offers Smart2Go, its homemade maps and navigation program, to Symbian S60 series and Windows Mobile 5.0 users for the low cost of nothing. The listed Nokia mobiles are :- E61, E70, N73, N80 and N93

 

I used the PC software MapLoader to download maps for Australia, Philippines and Thailand (there are heaps more country maps). By using the MapLoader you can load the complete map for a country without using either wifi or gprs (etc..). So for those that don't have a flat data rate plan on their mobile, you can use MapLoader to load it straight to your mobiles memory card (2GB miniSD cards are cheap nowdays).

 

I'm happy to report that the detail level of Thailand is very good, although it doesn't name the Soi's (it does show them) in Pattaya, does the name the roads. In the Bangkok area it seems to name everything (my knowledge of BKK is limited). It also has heaps of Points-of-interest already loaded for each map, although I doubt it would be up-to-date for Pattaya.

The map detail of Australia is very good too. But I'm currently using TomTom with a small BlueTooth GPS unit on my N80 for navigating (need to pay for Navigation on Smart2Go).
