Aussie Bar closed

Very sad to see a number of bars closed and for sale in Jomtien.  The Aussie Bar being the largest.  Strange - always seemed popular to me.  Always had customers as far as I could tell.  Was open in Dec 2013 when I was last here. My bargirl for the night tells me money trouble

This was one of my favorite bars as well and one of the first bars in Rompho.  On a side note, there seem to be many closed businesses around town now and many businesses, as well as bars, for sale.  I guess high season was not very high.

I think a lot depend on High season to get them through the year.

Don't know the particulars but landlords seem to prefer empty businesses to reduced rent. I remember trying to find a place to live in Vancouver. The Chinese landlady wanted me to move in straight away but I wanted to move in on the first. She told me that she wouldn't guarantee anything so I kept looking and found another place. I saw that she was still advertising 3 months later.

i'd rather eat a fishes face than a steak and kidney pie

Sorry to hear; a personal favorite. Great BFs from there and always a good time. Is this the death of Rompho? TIT

Death of rhompo ? What unsubstantiated trivial. Just got back and most bars were nowhere near empty. Tuesday nights are particularly busy.

Just spent alot of time at Rompho.  Looked like a reasonable amount of customers to me.  Maybe some bars only had 1 or 2 customers inside but all over looked reasonable

In Pattaya you need big money to start a bar to finnaly  make small "left over money"  :Think1::GoldenSmile1:

I suppose any bar is a gamble, your nearest bar sells beer for Bt85 per bottle so you sell it for Bt80, he then sells it for Bt80 but he is busier than you and even if you change your price to Bt75 but you cannot sustain it and earn enough money to make your gross profit and keep the bar.   Bang, you are gone.

Also I believe all the Russians that stay in Jomptien buy bottles of Vodka and camp out at home at night and don't go to the bars.

Another nail in the coffin.

Death of Rompho?  No, as most of the other bars stay pretty busy.  A couple of the bars there are packed at 11:00 in the morning.  I am not sure why Aussie Bar closed, they seemed to stay pretty busy.

something to do with the owner of complex..... romour has it that owner whats that position

Rompho will never close. The Aussie bar had problems internal. Most of the bars are doing well, but it is a cycle. Some days your up, some days down. Visit Rum Dum in Rompho in the late afteroon-early evening. Its always packed.

Thai friend of mine looked at the place when it first opened, one year renewable lease was poor he said, also they have some of the cheapest beer prices around, great for us, but not much profit in it, also free pool in every bar.

No wonder just about every bar you see has a for sale sign up

Saying that it does get busy at times, and the Aussie bar was one of the busiest

A small number of bars seem to attract a decent customer base, the Rum Dum, as a previous poster mentioned, is one of the them.  There are many bars that sit mostly empty through the afternoons and evenings.  There are quite a few closed bars and there is one stall that appears to have never been developed.  As one other poster mentioned, there are a few bars with for sale signs on display.

One year renewable lease you say?

Sounds like the renew was too hard to cop?
