Getting a new visa before the current one expires

My current visa is up in less than 2 weeks and I'd like to get the run out of the way and also to make sure that if they don't give me a new visa, I'll have time to get my plans in order. Can you go 2 weeks before your current visa expires and get a new one? Also, the new one will give you 30 days from when your current one expires right and not from when you get the new one?

I got a new visa before my old one expired at the Perth consulate. Although the new visa was issued 2 days before the old one expired.

What type of visa are you on now?

I have a double entry tourist visa so I've done my first 60 days with a 30 day extension then did a run to Cambo for another 60 days and am about to finish up my 2nd 30 day extension. After this, I have up to 3 30 day stamps via Cambo from what I understand and was told by some people at visa run places but I think it's best not to wait till the last min and get it out of the way. I just want to make sure if I go a week before it's expired that the new 30 day stamp will be for 30 days after the current visa expires and not 30 days from when I get the stamp.

It will be 30 days from the day that you enter (ie get the stamp) the country. What you are talking about is a right to be in Thailand for a period of time. It is not a visa.

Thanks Scumbag. Sounds like I should wait as long as I can then to maximize my time.

IF you are talking about 30 day runs then you need to go on the actual expiry day.

Not only does this ensure you get the full 30 days but there are numerous accounts (read the Jil in Pattaya Blog) of people going the day before and being truned back and told to come again the next day.

Technically that should NOT happen but TiT.

I have had 30 day visas and after only 6 or 7 days have taken a side trip to Cambo and returned to Thailand after 3 or 4 days

On re-entry to Thailand you will be issued with a new 30 day visa that starts on the day you re-enter.

If you plan to stay for a while I would wait til near the current one is near its expiry date.

Cheers Mick
