Hi,

Gonna be arriving at Don Mueang at about 4pm on a Monday.

There will be two if us

I plan on taking the bus from the airport to the main Bangkok bus station, and then onto Pattaya VIP bus.

the services seem limited from this airport. What would you do?

Split the fair an take direct taxi? If yes, any recommended firms? What would be the charge?

There are free buses from Don Meuang to Suvarnabhumi airport, as long as you can show a boarding pass. Trip time 30 - 45 minutes.

Go out from the arrivals terminal and bear right. They are yellow buses.

From Suvarnabhumi get the usual Bell Bus service to Patts. Go down to the first floor (Level 1) and head along to gate number 8. There is a counter there.

You should be able to make the 6.00pm bus to Patts from S.V. easily.

This is the last bus, so don't muck about.

Hi, correct me if I'm wrong but don't think I can use the free bus, as returning from Phnom Penh, so won't have valid boarding pass to present?

If I were you, returning from PP, take a taxi to Mo Chit bus station and then the Pattaya Bus from there.

Check the scheduel of the Pattaya Bus from Mo Chit here:

http://www.pattayabus.com/en/routes-schedules/bangkok-to-pattaya/#3

Basically:

Buses leave every 30 to 40 minutes from Morchit-2

The first bus leaves at 04:30

The last bus leaves at 22:00

1. Motorway route = 133 THB
2.. Bangna-Trad (Toll way) route = 124 THB

It is very easy and rather comfortable. I have always paid +/- THB 120 for the taxi from DM to Mo Chit.

So you don't have a boarding pass from PNH to BKK?

If there is a problem, it is only 35 Baht.

Take a taxi to Morchit bus station, takes around 30 mins on tollway & around 200bt+tolls, then avail the bus to Pattaya (terminates at north Pattaya), costs around 140Bt. Just make sure that you come out of the airport asap, the taxi queues are pretty long.

A1 shuttle bus from DMK airport to Mo Chit bus terminal is 30 baht, if you hate taxis as much as I do.

So

Overall travel time?

Once you sit in the taxi and with normal traffic about 30 minutes to Mo Chit and from there (without the waiting time for the bus) around 2 to 2.5 hours in the bus.

Traffic is the same, as you will find out.

But up to you.

My friend and I took the Jomtien bus to Suvarnabhumi. Then got the free airport shuttle to Don Meuang for an Airasia flight to Hong Kong.

came back a week later and did the same deal in reverse.

all smooth, because the buses from D.M. run very regularly.

As  I said, up to you, I prefer to use Public Transport when I can.

It gives me far better exposure to the Local Community.

30-45 minutes to suvarnabhumi, then 1.5hrs to Pattaya.

Thanks for that link I'm looking for a way there on the 9th.Do you think the busses will run if the problem there gets worse?

Sounds good, gonna take Taxi or A1 shuttle to Mo chit bus station.

Does the A1 shuttle run regularly and where do I board this bus?

Thanks for Mo Chit link

When at the station, how does it work? Do I need to buy a ticket?

Cheers guys!

I assume it's just like Ekamai,  there will be a separate window for Pattaya. Your ticket will have the time and the bay # on it.
