Pills for Diarrhea (Stomach Bug)

I always have this problem when traveling out of States. I would use Imodium which did not help much.

Than a friend of mine gave me few pills of loperamide which works as a charm with me.

Usually I get Diarrhea on second or third day and that is when i start taking 4-6 pills for couple of days.

I recommend Diarine, 20 thb in Thailand pharmacy and Diatabs 25 peso in any 7/11 in Philippines.

Don`t allow this shit spoil your vacation. Happy mongering to all !!!

Immodium and loperamide are the same thing. Handy if you have a crook gut and need to be out and about. However, not recommended if you have gastro, your body is trying to get rid of the bug, better to get it all out. If symptoms persist for 12 hours or more you will need something like norfloxacin to treat the bug. Be careful tho, I found out the hard way I am allergic to it and spent 3 hours in the shower Scratching and sweating . Most pharmacy will have something for you, don't forget to keep hydrated

I had a case of the shits last time i was in Pattaya and saw a doctor at a pharmacy and he gave me about

5 different tablets. I rattled going down the road,but to be fair cleared it up in about 24 hrs. I think if your

not sure its better to see a doctor and get the right medication after all they must see dozens of us every

week with the shits.

 

Imodium is good if you have to fly or something but as the previous poster says i think its better out than in

but good for emergencies. Can really screw your holiday up

A upset stomach is a common inconvenience for travellers as their gut microflora adapts to new food and the local environment.

 

If it does develop into "the runs" I usually just stop eating for a day or two, and keep up my intake of water and electrolyte, and let irun its course, without medication. After such a fast the gut settles down and you feel much better for it.

 

When breaking the fast, start with some rice porridge (Kao Tom).

I've been travelling (and shitting) around Asia for the past 12 months. Personally I haven't taken any medication when I've had the runs. What works for me is taking a probiotic pill every day. This means I'm probably sick about once every 2 months as opposed to once every 2-3 weeks. When something nasty gets in my body I supplement the pills with a powdered probiotic & some of those Yakult clones they have in Asia. Clears things up within a couple of days. Make sure you drink plenty of water and supplement with electrolyte drink. I carried around a few packets of Royal-D. Has the best taste out of all of them.

 

Prevention is better than cure! Having the runs is your body's way of getting rid of whatever is causing the problem. Please don't use Imodium unless you really can't get to a toilet for a few hours. It will just clog you up and whatever your body is trying to rid itself of will just stay inside.

whenever I travel in asia I think I must visit about every toilet.

 

I am the same and generally get the runs after about 2 days. I mostly let it run unless I am flying or wont have the option to get to a bathroom for a few hours. 

 

Patts is great in that there are toilets in every bar and most of them are kept fairly clean

Loperamide is the active part of Imodium, which is/was a brand of Janssen Pharmaceutica.

Many “copies” with 2 mg too are available in Pattaya.

If Imodium does not work, the copies will not do either.

That may be true but I was feeling better within hours. Whatever it's for, that's the only thing that ever worked for me. I would use it again.

Best solution I've found is a trip to the pharmacy on soi 6/1 for some jellys then step out and pass them around to the big titted beauties.. usually stops the flow until I'm ready to head back to my room!!!
