Whitewater Kayaking in Thailand

Featured Replies

Gents,

New to the forums here, and planning my next trip abroad. Obviously Pattaya is on the cards, but I have recently developed an interest in kayaking and am looking for some decent whitewater in Thailand. I have heard that the rivers up north may offer good riding? Anyone here interested in kayaking? If so, what are you experiences (good or bad) in Thailand? Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Regards

Hi Mate..why not do a search for Umphang..I have been there a few times when I was working in the area...but never Kayaking....

Hi Fella its good to see someone on here who has other interests apart from shagging Thai ladies, I am hoping to get some time to go up country and check out the Off-roading, I seen a group that do tours and they sound pretty mad, plenty of Mud..... :Jump_Drool:

Cheers,

Hi,

I did the white water rafting last year north of Chiang Mai. We were on the Mae Tang (Spelling). Absolute cracking time was had. Even got a DVD of the day. I would highly recommend you try this. I booked it at my hotel. Sorry cant remember how much it cost but do remember thinking that it was worth every penny.

Try the Pai River from Pai to Mae Hongson. I know there are many good places, but this was a good experience for me. We did it in two man rubber rafts, but I am sure kayak is possible.

Danger depends on the season.

Enjoy,

Liam

I plan on doing it out of Chiang Mai in August... the rivers should be running really good then too! I did whitewater rafting in Costa Rica earlier this year and now I'm hooked!

I will be traveling to Chiang Rai for- 1st 5 days in Sept. then, 12 days in Pattaya, and then back to spend 4 days in Chiang Mai.. I just want to travel around some this trip although- I know the area will never measure up to Pattaya... but it's my-4th trip..and I want to see more of country..1st trip was in Phuket.. Patong Beach.. Pattaya much better I think..

It will be Monsoon season and the rivers.. will be going -Big- maybe, too big...but I want to try -whitewater rafting..any suggestions of who to go on trip with :D ..which company?

i've done some class 4 rapids in costa rica(rios pacquare and reventazon) and zimbabwe(zambezi river) but for some reason i just don't think you'll find that kind of action in thailand, not at any sustained level anyway. i'd love to be wrong! it could still be great fun regardless but no doubt you'd need to be there when water was high.

I bet you can find some kick ass whitewater in Thailand as well guys doing it in kayaks. I have also done whitewater rafting in Costa Rica and saw some locals that were very very good in kayaks. I bet you can find it as well in Thailand, but you may have to look around for it.
