Browsing the forums, I see there is varying advice regarding the best treatment of sexually transmitted disease. I recently visited a clinic in my home (Australia) and found a pretty useful guide which I thought I might share...

Clearly, this provides little (if any) help in the actual diagnosis of an STD, and these are only the current local (Australian) guidelines, but it may be useful for those traveling overseas who are reluctant to visit a doctor, or those who question the medical treatment they are provided for certain STDs. (Disclaimer - use this information at your own risk. I am not a doctor and cannot in any way guarantee the applicability of the information to your own personal situation)

 

1. Canchroid : ceftriaxone 250 mg im injection / azithromycin 1g orally / erythromycin 500mg orally 6 hourly for 7 days.

 

2. Gonorrhoea: ceftriaxone 250 mg im injection / spectinomycin 2g im injection

 

3. Chlamydia: azithromycin 1g orally / doxycycline 200mg orally 10 days

 

4. Herpes: (first episode) valaciclovir 500 mg orally 12 hourly for 5 days

 

5. Syphilis benzathine penicillin G 1.8 g (2.4 million units) im injection + procaine penicillin 3 g (3 million units) im injection daily plus probenecid 500 mg orally 6 hourly for 10 days.

 

Obviously the key to any definative treatment is a clear diagnosis - seeing a doctor, and having swabs taken for microbiological analysis is the most important first step.

 

Taking care of my own health is my number one priority.

Thanks for the list. There are a few minor mistakes though:

Chlamydia: You only need to take 100 mg doxycyclin for 7 days, not 200mg for 10 days like you said

Syphilis: Just one 2.4 mu Penicillin G shot im injected is sufficiant.

Herpes: 1g Valaciclovir orally twice daily for 7-10 days OR Acyclovir 400 mg three times a day for 7-10 days

Apart from that the list is correct...

These are the official CDC treatment guidelines BTW...

Interesting info timorno - shows that the management of sexually transmitted diseases isn't set in stone... As I say, these are the local (Australian) NHMRC protocols, and there are clearly some subtle differences between these and the US guidelines.

Gonorrhoea- 2 Tab Azitromax(Zitromax) at once and that is enough also no needs for injecton anymore ...and a very good point ..you can buy it in Thailand coz sometimes you will feel it first at Home and if you have some tabl.. you dont need to go for a doctor at home ...

Don't try to treat yourself unless you are qualified you may do more harm than good some stds symptoms clear up after a while by themselves but the infection does not and will come back months if not years later when it has done irreparable damage to your health if you think you may have contracted something see a doctor it is not expensive in Thailand best in the long run.

I agree with you, but seeing a doctor is really important.

 

I would like to mention something

 

Syphilis - 6-8 months before first symptom appear - usually people have flue before first symptom appear and take some weak antibiotics, so Syphilis is healed very easy and most even don't know that have hatched Syphilis.

 

Chlamydia is never healed on 100%, not dangerous for man but for women, women usually carry Chlamydia all life long.

 

Azithromycin/Zytromax is the best antibiotic for healing STDs it is universal for all, and if you find you have STD in early stage (Men feel first symptoms usually in first week) you can heal STD in 3 days.

It is easy and not terribly expensive to see a doctor in Bangkok. I would also recommend this as misinformation abounds, sexually transmitted diseases are frequently seen in combination (e.g. gonorrhea and chlamydia), some treatments are more effective than others and local resistance patterns change which medication is most effective. While some antibiotics may work for more than one organism there is no "magic bullet" or "universal antibiotic" and you run the risk of increasing resistance by taking pills randomly. This is a huge problem where antibiotics are available without prescriptions. Furthermore, you may not need one at all and why expose yourself to side effects ranging from puking and diarrhea to life-threatening allergic reactions for a drug you don't need?

 

Finally, if you have been exposed to one STD, you are at high risk of being exposed to others. You want to be counseled and tested on the others, particularly the viral infections for which you can't treat with antibacterials. A visit to a doc will also provide you with options for vaccines (be nice to take HepB off the list of diseases you have to worry about for example!)

i see so many people trying to treat themselves and end up in the er anyway. if u think u have a problem go to the dr. if u are worried go to a clinic far enough away from your home so u want be seen by any friends. and if it shows up in los then go to the dr there, if u can talk to a woman about p4p then u can talk to a dr about this.
