South Korean Man Arrested After Hiding In Thailand

Immigration police have arrested a South Korean man who fled to Thailand to escape allegations of defrauding victims that invested in a casino in Macau. He took over 33 million THB of his victims money and fled to Chiang Mai province to hide.

CHIANG MAI – February 11, 2014 [PDN]; at 4.00 p.m. Pol. Maj. Gen. Warawuth Thaweechaikarn (Commander of Immigration Bureau) had commanded Pol. Col. Chalermphol Jintarat (Deputy Commander), Pol. Col. Thikhamporn Srisang (Superintendent) to arrest t a transnational criminal according to the arrest warrant of South Korean embassy. Later Pol. Lt. Col. Prawit Sirithorn (Deputy Superintendent 2), Pol. Capt. Phatthanaphong Rojjanawanitchakit, Pol. Sub. Lt. Saney Ponkalo (Deputy Inspector) together with Pol. Lt. Col. Udom Suwanlekha (Deputy Superintendent of Chiang Mai Immigration Bureau) arrested Mr. Lee Doo Won, South Korea nationality, aged 37, with the allegation of embezzlement according to the arrest warrant of South Korea as he committed an offence of fraud by deceiving this victims to invest in the casino in Macau. The total amount of fraudulent money was $1.15 million U.S. He was arrested in front of Wawee coffee shop, Nimmarn Hemin road, Soi 7, Tambon Suthep, Amphur Mueang, Chiang Mai province.

Initially, the Immigration Bureau had already issued the notice dated February 7, 2014 to revoke the permission that allowed him to stay in the Kingdom of Thailand and sent the defendant to the police of the investigation Division of Immigration Bureau for further action to deport him back to the police of South Korea to prosecute further according to the Korean law.
