suvarnabhumi airport to koh samui

Quick qestion. Is it possible to just turn up at suvarnabhumi and get a flight to samui, or would it be advisable to pre book? I have read that only Bangkok Airways and Thai fly direct to samui which would be my preference as i dont really want to involve a ferry transfer.

If you are lucky you can purchase a ticket at their counters in the airport but why would you not book a flight? You can book online or just go to a travelagency and pay a small fee. That way you know the plane has a seat for you :-)

Have done on a few occasions never had a problem, flights every couple hours they've always found a seat for me.

I missed Bangkok Air flight to Samui last month, they got me on a later one no probs. The 2 last one's in the evening are usually quietest.

thai air use to do about 5-6 a day I find it easier to get the flight from u-tapo airport about 30 mins from Pattaya. Use to be one everyday about mid-day.

Bangkok Air built the airport (maybe the best small one in the world) and until 2 years ago they had a monopoly. The flights are therefore way more expensive than they should be. If you go really early or really late the price isn't horrible. Also, if there's 2 or you, they frequently have BOGO specials with a specific CC company like Visa or Amex. That's when I jump. So IIWY, I'd check the website from time to time. As mentioned earlier, if you're going to/from PTY, U-Tapao is the way to go.
