PATTAYA – February 7, 2014 [PDN]; at 7.00 p.m. Pol. Lt. Saksit Kaewkhai (policeman on duty at Pattaya city police station, Chonburi province) brought police officers to inspect at Chor. Santi Hardware shop which is located at 312/19-23 Pattaya Third Road, Moo 9 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province, after the police were notified that the burglars stole property valued at over 1 million THB.

Upon arrival at the shop, a 4-storey building in the heart of Pattaya, the officers were met by Mr. Santi Amornlertsap, aged 62, the shop owner. He informed the police that he had been away on business in the Amphur Sattahip area at the time of the crime, and had left his 2 sons, Mr. Kittiphong, aged 27 and Mr. Kittiphan, aged 20, in charge in his absence.

The theft occurred whilst the sons were working in the shop, but it was only realised that evening. It appears that the thieves entered the private living quarters above the shop on the third floor, via a window. The sons in charge of the shop heard nothing suspicious, but found the crime scene later that day when one had to go to the rooms for some stock. The room had been ransacked, and Mr Santi was called home. Upon his arrival, he deemed that the cash had been taken, as had the jade and diamond ring, worth in excess of 100,000 baht.

The police believe there to have been two perpetrators, one pretending to be a customer in order to keep the staff busy, whilst the other broke in, using an iron vase wrapped in cloth to break the window. The police have coordinated with the Forensic Science Division to dust for fingerprints. Once caught, the criminals will be prosecuted according to Thai law.
