In a post recently I made the comment that around 90% of Members are unlikely have ever sat foot in Thailand but why did I say that....?

Its easy to spot because the Airline Sub Section which everyone of us has to use is extremely quiet and very rarely are deals put up.......

Laamok came back and estimated at 30% plus is a truer figure and I guess he knows

However I suggest deals of the week, month could possibly assist frequent flyers but possible encourage first timers to take the plunge......

Rather then put links up which tend to expire quickly confirmed prices could be listed ??

So I'll kick it off with 5 weeks booked via Travel Up and Etihad leaving 18th March at £438. Original search engine was Travel Supermarket and departing Heathrow

List em up for the benefit of others !

Just got scoot for $438 return Gold Coast to Bangkok. Fly out march 10 return march 17. Must fly b4 end of March to get special

I paid $508 with air Asia -Adelaide to don mueang march 8-15

A good thing to do when checking prices for your dates is to use Kayak and set up a daily price comparison for your dates , then you can see any special / sales as soon as they happen

If it floats, flies or fucks It's probably cheaper to rent ...

From the American Midwest (out of Chicago) I would say the best is United via Tokyo.......I think $1,200 US is bottom end.The fuel surcharge means anything less just isn't realistic. If anybody knows better please let me know about it! :hello09:

Not booked this one but Travel Supermarket is showing Etihad at £495  out of Heathrow for middle of August a very low fare for peak season (for Euro travellers flying out)

Normally fares dont drop until around 22nd August

I love flying Thai airways and am planning a trip late August early September ,showing 780 at the moment but I always think booking 3 months before will come down to around 600..

Flew etihad before ,(out of LHR btw) and while they are a great airline I just don't like the 08:30 departure time from bkk

bought a one way ticket on Delta, March 30 (Ft Meyers=>Detroit=>Narita=>BKK) for $953.60 ... added trip insurance (not sure why, but I did) => $80 ... I am moving there (not a closed ended vacation) so I will be carrying two suitcases => $100 (for the extra suitcase since I bought a cheap seat)... then I thought about it and was offered some sort of Economy Plus seating (more leg room/seats recline further, get on the plane earlier, free beverages (I thought ALL international flights had free beverages?!?!)) => $159 (that upgraded last 2 legs of the flight)... figured I would give myself that seat upgrade gift, and hopefully I will be happy I did that (more comfortable flights?)... so not really a good deal, all said and done => $1,292.00 USD for a one way ticket (EVERYTHING/TAXes/etc included), economy class... but before I added the extras it was an OK deal, more or less... I didn't want to fly on a Middle Eastern carrier... I would have liked to fly on an Asian carrier - Thai, Singapore, etc (but not a Chinese airline)... just personal preference... and I didn't want to transit China as last time I did that, stopover in Hong Kong on the way back to Dulles, I was on a jam-packed flight with a very big/large Chinese guy who slept, and leaned into me the entire flight... why I oughta!!!

Retired in Pattaya, Thailand - arrived April 1, 2014... Ohhhhh yeahhhhhh... LiveN my dream!

Nothing special to post yet, but I'll continue to follow this thread -- I read a lot of frequent flier blogs and they often post about great deals, so I'll be sure to pass them along here.  Frankly, I didn't know there WAS an Airline sub forum on PA!  5555555

Today's tidbit: Asiana is going to put A380s into play on some of their LAX-ICN flights starting around August.  The increased capacity may filter down to better fares.

Also, I would suggest keeping an eye out for new routes.  For example, I think American is starting non-stop service from DFW to Dubai in October or November (and you could use Dubai as a connection into BKK).  I think new routes often come with good sales to "introduce" them.

what about mileage programs Footy?  I only have star alliance... if I were to start another, what would you recommend?

pretty interesting deal with Emirates from Seattle to BKK in June, 1370 bucks...  may pull the trigger on that, see Dubai and fly in an Airbus 380...

I got JUST the cards for you, Daddee....

Two current offers on AA cards from Citi:

1. Citi Executive card -- massive minimum spend requirement ($10,000 within 3 months) AND a high annual fee ($450), but you get a $200 statement credit (which effectively cuts the annual fee to $250), it carries access to AA lounges AND you get 100,000 AA bonus miles.  Factoring in the miles for hitting the minimum spend, you're pretty much getting a free RT business class flight -- it's typically 110,000 AA miles for biz class from the USA to BKK using Oneworld to book with JAL or Cathay Pacific (though availability can be limited on Cathay).

2. Citi AA Platinum -- much lower minimum spend ($3,000 within 3 months) and annual fee ($95 AND it is waived the first year), but no lounge access (not a big deal to me, since I'm usually flying biz class) and it is "only" 50,000 bonus miles.  This card also gets you a 10% "rebate" on miles used, up to 10,000 miles per year.  Because of that, the 50,000 mile bonus (+ the minimum spend) will get you a one way biz class ticket to BKK (55,000 miles, but you'll get 5,000 "refunded" to your account)

Tough call on which one to get....and you can possibly get BOTH, although that would be a pretty tough minimum spend req't of $13,000 in 3 months -- maybe if you're expecting a big tax bill, you could use it to pay them -- you get hit with a nasty % on top of the amount to use the card, but it would help you get those bonus miles faster.

I currently have a Citi AA Platinum personal card, so I'm seriously considering the Citi Executive card -- I can use it to pay my rent, which would cover $6000 of the $10,000.  The "rub" is how I will hit the other $4,000, but I don't see it being that big of a problem -- I will probably have a tax bill this year, so that's a possibility; worst case scenario, I'll buy a couple of $500 Visa or AMEX gift cards!  I wish that they had it in a business card version, but no luck there (yet)

There IS a business card version of the 50k card, so I may just go for it.  I can easily hit it $3000 (though $10k takes some effort!), and I am loaded up on US Air miles (around 400,000), which will eventually become AA miles, so that may be "enough" for now....

Here's a great blog entry on best current offers -- not coincidentally, the 2 Citi cards are #1 and 2 on the list:  http://boardingarea.com/onemileatatime/2014/02/13/10-best-credit-card-sign-bonuses-february/#comments

That is a fair price for summer fares. They usually stick it to Americans June-August.

I do have a large tax bill due... past due in fact, haha!  don't want to pay it...  been waiting for the threatening letter from the IRS, per my accountant.  I hate paying the fuckers a dime, with the way they spend it...  idiots... don't get me started... wait, too late, 555.

very interesting, I will take a shot at that 10K spend one I think!

Thanks, mileage guru!

I think I will try it, but I need to nail down the dates and deal with all the details of having a kid to manage...

Qantas from Australia to Bangkok on sale, numerous dates. $799 return. However if you book through their partner airline Emirates (same flights) and use the Promo Code AUSSO13 ( the O is O for Orgasm) is brings it down to $763. Theses are direct flights.
