Lumpini Boxing Stadium says Farewell after 57 years

Lumpini Boxing Stadium which has supported sporting events for the past 57 years is to close on the 7th of February. On the final day there will be boxing matches, music, and lots of other activities.

Lumpini Boxing Stadium was founded in 1956 by Major General Prabhas Charusthira, while he was the commander of the 1st Brigade of the royal guards. The first boxing match was on March the 15th and the official opening ceremony was on December 8th of the same year .

The boxing stadium has a long history and a lot of very important matches have been held there such as the first World Championship of Phone Kingpetch with Pascal Perez, on April 16, 1960. It has also held Muay Thai and boxing championships of Thailand.

On February 11th this year Lumpini statdium will be closed and moved from Rama iv Rd to the Thai Army Training Centre. On February7, Lumpini Boxing Stadium has organized a farewell boxing match which has many boxers participating.

Dr. Pong Visedpaitoon , honourable promoter revealed that he supported this ceremony and February 7th would be a historic day. He also said that there would be many activities, music, boxing matches, and photography. So come along don’t miss it.
