Renting a car in Patts or BKK

Last month, I put a reservation in for a rental at Thai Rent a Car in Udon Thani. When I got to the rental desk at the airport I was told that that because I was using an ATM Visa instead of a credit card, they would hold 10k for 90 days as the deposit. They said all the majors had the same policy. I couldn't even give them 10k cash. I wasn't going to give a car rental company 10k for 90 days and I was pissed. I found another small company that would rent without this nonsense but it was at a higher rate and I was on the hook for the first 20k of damage on the vehicle. I took this poor alternative because I was stuck. 

 

So, anyone have a recommendation for a rental car for a couple of weeks? Thanks.

I've used Avis a number of times and have been very pleased with their services. New cars, excellent prices and no nonsense. I found the best rate was at the rental counter at the airport.
