I am already in pattaya and have made the decision to stay. My house has just sold in the uk so I will not be returning for any reason. I have about 5 days left on my 30 day visa and quite prepared to fly to Singapore or surrounding for a week or so to effect a solution.

 

Any advice on the subject would be greatly appreciated.

I think thaivisa.com would be the best place to ask as it's full of retirees. There are also certain 'visa shops' in town which can, shall we say, circumvent the official guidelines up to a point. They obviously require a bit of baksheesh but you get what you want and everyone is kept happy.

To get the correct information I suggest that you go down to the immigration office in Jomtien, soi 5. Ask the officer at the information desk, they know the drill for all the different cases.

 

I have a friend that did this when he had entered on a tourist visa. This visa was converted to a non-imm O at the immigration office at the cost of about 1,900Bath. He collected his passport with a retirement the following day, normally you get it the same day if you are there early in the morning.

 

The only thing you need to bring is your passport, a letter from your bank and your bank passbook. You can get all the photo copies and photos done at the immigration office. Go to your bank and ask them for a letter for immigration for your retirement visa, they know what to do and it should only take 15-30 minutes.

 

You say that you have only 5 days left of your 30 day visa. I guess that you don't have a visa but entered on the visa exempt scheme. Not sure if you can get a non-imm visa in Thailand if you don't have a visa to convert to start with.

Correct, I don't have a visa. I have been roaming looking for somewhere to retire and pattaya just fits the bill. From what I have read I will have to leave and get a visa then come back. I'm not really bothered about the expense as I am fortunate enough for money not to be an issue. Its more the hassle I am bothered about than financial outlay.

I came here with no visa..Thai Immigrations to told me to fly to Vientien, Laos and get a 90 day visa which I did. Then bring passport, photos, bank letter back to Thai Immigrations and apply..They may have other places to get a 90 day visa..First one I got was when I lived Chiang Mai so Laos was close..First stop before anything else--Talk to them they know what you need to do..
