American caught up in necklace theft in Central Pattaya.

Pattaya Police were quickly on the scene of a suspected necklace snatch which took place in front of a Bed Shop in Central Pattaya on Wednesday Afternoon. The victim of the snatch, Mr. Jerome Jackson aged 46 from USA was present as was the suspected thief, Khun Jiradee aged 26 who had been detained by passers-by. Mr. Jackson explained that he was driving home from the St Nicklaus Church located on the Sukumvit Road when the suspect drove beside him on a motorbike and snatched his gold necklace from around his neck. The man was caught thanks to members of the public who saw the crime take place. Khun Jiradee told Police that he thought the female companion with the victim resembled his former girlfriend and he wanted to commit the theft as payback for her breaking up with him. The story was found to be untrue and Khun Jiradee is now behind bars on a charge of theft.

Brave Belgian helps to detain suspected thief in Central Pattaya.

In the early hours of Thursday Morning yet another bag snatch took place here in Pattaya. Police Major Witaya was called to Soi Jirapon off Soi Beokeow following reports of a man who had been detained following a bag snatch from a 21 year old Thai Woman. At the scene, Police spoke with Khun Wanna who was slightly injured following the snatch. A 27 year old Thai Man, Khun Moo had been arrested, thanks to quick thinking by Khun Wanna’s boyfriend, Mr. Kurt Vandenbusche aged 37 from Belgium. He was riding his motorbike and Khun Wanna was sitting behind him when two Thai Men, one of which was arrested, approached on a further bike and snatched her shoulder bag, which contained a mobile phone, some cash and personal documents. Mr. Vandenbusche bravely followed the pair and forced them to crash their bike. One of the suspects managed to escape, while Khun Moo was detained by members of the public. He explained that the other man is known as “Doo” and Police are searching for him at this time.

2 arrested as Bar Worker is caught up in Bag Snatch in North Pattaya.

Although Songkran is a time for fun, that fun comes at a price and a lack of money over Songkran leads to some involving themselves in criminal activities to ensure they have enough money to enjoy the Festival. This is one such case which occurred in the early hours of Tuesday Morning. Police Captain Witaya from Pattaya Police Station made his way to the front of the Gulf Siam Hotel where a member of the public had detained two young boys suspected of snatching a handbag belonging to a female bar worker. The incident occurred as the victim stopped her bike at traffic lights on Pattaya Second Road. The two suspects pulled up beside her and the passenger snatched her handbag which was resting on her lap. Inside the bag was 670 Baht in cash, a mobile phone and personal documents. Nearby, a man saw the theft and gave chase to the two young boys who were caught in North Pattaya. Khun Anuwat aged 18 and his 14 year old friend, who were on school holidays, had come to Pattaya to enjoy Songkran but realized they had run out of money. They decided to commit the theft to replenish their funds. Both are now in the hands of the law who are processing them at this time.
