Despite numerous assurances from the local authorities that Jet Ski Scams were being dealt with, they continue to occur on a regular basis and appear to involve local authority workers. In the early...

Two things that never change in Pattaya -

available girls and jet ski scams

Will this bullshit ever end ?

Charge the jet ski operators with extortion.

Then charge the security guys with aiding and abetting.

Would be interesting to see what would happen if charges were laid.

Remember twelve months ago some bigwig from Bangkok saying he was going to put a stop to it, like most politicans a man of his word 555

There are always naive tourists coming to Pattaya so there will always be scams, the jetski one is probably the best known and can be quite lucrative for the perportrators. If you sit down the BR  at the right location think you will see a jetski scam most days. Cannot see it stopping

openly seen every day with same gang members who are never charged. Has been same for years. The kickbacks go all the wayup the chain to the top.

But the local authorities continue to assure us that they do not tolerate this type of interaction because it "reflects poorly on pattaya and Thailand"

Stand on the new boardwalk just north of Mikes Mall any day around 4 pm and you will see the scam unfold..  The police stand across the street waiting to be summoned by the scammers to arbitrate the dispute.  There are at least two groups of scammeres that I have seen, aided by the police.

Been watching this going on for more years than I can remember. I walk nearly, every day the length of beach road at different times, and seen it happen so often.

Its just another scam the Thai's use to extract money from us, be it jet ski's or a charges to get into a go go bar. Too many scams to mention here.

We are just seen as cash cows...?

If the aim is to make Pattaya a real tourist destination, and move all the 'Nightlife' away from  'Normal tourists', view,  this sort of scamming will have to be stopped...!

I hope it will never happen, I am happy to use my wits to avoid the 'scams' and leave Pattaya as it was meant to be,   ' The best red light city in the world..? '

Besides, could they ever restore the beaches to a level that would attract real tourists...?

I doubt it.

P.S. Never ever, hire a jet ski. 555

And they want to up-market Pattaya as a tourist destination !!!!   There will be more unsuspecting tourists to scam.  How can the local authorities stand-by for so long and allow this to happen ??????     I agree with what everyone is thinking !!!!

The Chinese in tour bus groups rent from preferred 'partners' - and nothing appears to happen - lest bus tour income stop overnight. The Chinese know how to deal with crooks - never again, ever.

As for the scam, the Airline should add a note of caution to all passengers - Warning them. Direct and specific international embarrassment is the second only thing these extortionists will take notice of. The first being a dry up of business. I warn everyone I meet never to hire a jetski.

I suppose no-one willing to stump up cash to run an ad in the back of a baht bus in Russian, Chinese and English - 'Extortion Alert - Never hire a Jetski off Pattaya beach. It could later cost you 600-800 USD. It is a very common trap. Don't even think about it.  Otherwise, Enjoy Pattaya.

It is easy enough to plant a hidden mic/camera nowadays. I dont know why more has not been posted to youtube .

But they have spotters and throw bricks and mob videographers. Be careful - they know the drill - no witnesses.

People familiar with drug stings - well lets say better technology could capture heaps!

It would seem easy for someone to gather evidence that this scam is happening, hell I watch it every afternoon I walk along beach road, I saw it happen to a group of Indians yesterday, they almost started fighting.  If the the powers that be are intent on stopping this it would not be hard to find the scammers

There is plenty of evidence and there has been for years. YouTube has countless videos going back years. It's also reported in the local Pattaya papers as a continuing problem.

There is no stopping it because that would require the cooperation of the police.

Unfortunately for unsuspecting tourists, the police cooperate with the jet ski scammers. This is also well known.

Yes, the police do well out of it. One day on my walk,  I saw a scam unfolding, so I stopped to watch. Not too far away, about 15/20 meters.

I watched for maybe 15 min, until the police arrived. Only one cop.

While it was going on, the cop looked over at me many times, with a look I can only describe as ' go away not your concern ' even to the point at staring at me.

It was obvious to anybody to see, I was watch the scam, there was nothing else going on.

I ignored him, even thinking should I video it with my phone. I decided it was not a good idea, as I was sure he would have come over and harassed me.

I left when I thought his  'Anger'...? at me watching got to a point, that it was wise to move on.

Are the police in on it...? Never doubted it.  555

One of the YouTube videos I saw a few years ago shows a victim of the scam being threatened with violence and calling to a traffic cop on Beach Road for help.

The cop lifts his hands in the air, smiles, and says (translated) "not my problem."

Great for tourism, huh? LOL

Stayed at the Marriott a few years ago; they had warnings about not hiring jet-skis all over the property.  Got to like businesses that look out for their patrons; know there would be +/-'s if hotels owned by locals did that...but goes a long way for building a loyal following.  .

The dutch have a different approach in Pattaya.

Motobike + Jetski + Cold wheather = Jet Ski owners are confussed.

Hit and Run saving tourists from being scammed.............................................. They are not afraid of anything ( cold wheather ) etc etc

I have stood there many times and seen the scams taking place.  Two weeks ago there was an official from a government department wearing clothes just like a police man who talked to one of the groups of scammers for ages, he then left but didn`t go far because he was back to help then after about 20 minutes.  He looked just like a police man but carried no gun and was obviously helping the crooks, not the tourists.    If there are any real disputes, the two groups of scammers become one group very quickly, they always work together, seen this many times.
