Which area of Pattaya should I live?

Hello all,

I have just come to stay in Pattaya after living three years in the Philippines.. I think I'll be here for at least a few months.

I have visited here as a tourist about 5-6 times. Last trip I stayed in View Talay Six.. very nice, but hard to get a condo there now and it's at the higher end of my price range anyway. I'm not sure which area I should live in?

- I will be eating all of my meals (mostly Thai food) in restaurants.

- I won't be hitting the WS bars too often, so don't need to be too close to them.

- I work online so I need good internet

- I'd like a condo with a sea view since I'll be spending a lot of time in the room working.

- A place with a pool would be nice, but not essential.

- I'm on a budget. I guess I can afford up to B20k a month.

- I have ridden bikes for many years. I have rented a scooter now so I can look around, but I'm happy riding baht buses.

Your suggestions please.

Most of the guys I know live on the Dark Side, come into town at the weekends and have some local bars that actually offer all they need. Hope this helps.

Just seen this link, it will help http://www.pattaya-addicts.com/forum/topic/200994-darkside-map-update/

Jomtien. In strolling distance to the beach....

East Pattaya is the boon docks.....fuke that.  Compound life sucks I reckon....

Met an old duck (80yo) on a baht bus into Pattaya, she has condo around Jomtien soi 12 or so. Comes to Thailand 6 months a year... and the rate she mentioned was pretty damn good.

Don't recall seeing her in Windmill or X-Zone though.

Try View Talay 2 mate. I pay 10k a month for my unit, great pool :)

My mind wandered and never came back ;)

I love View Talay 6 as well...great location. Jomtiem can be pretty cheap for a nice condo and w beach view...many gays there though

I rented a place in Jomtien for a month and I've realized it doesn't suit me to live here.

The restaurants in the central Pattaya area are actually cheaper and many are open 24 hours, unlike here in Jomtien.

I also know massage places in Soi Bukhao (sp) are cheaper than here..

I'm now looking for a place back in central Pattaya.

Second that.

How about up in North Pattaya/ Naklua?

Same distance as Jomtien from the action but different crowd.

I had a look around that area too.. some really nice looking Condos by the beach, but the restaurants in the surrounding streets were all fancy places. You have to go back to the main road for the cheaper eateries.

I'll most likely do the newbie thing and rent in the Urban or City Garden

I've been back to VT6 again looking for a condo there. The prices they're asking are crazy now. The same condo that was 18k last year is now 25k. You can get a really basic studio condo that looks like Grandma's spare room on a low floor for 20k.. alternatively you can have a view of Central Festival car park. A half decent modern studio condo on the WS side is now 25k +

Along Naklua 18 on the RHS halfway down there is a small BB complex.

In the toilets at the back there is a sign in German advertising condos for Bt400 a night, so around 12K a month. From memory that's starting price for a studio

Might be worth checking out.

Pattaya Tai around Big C, Can get sophon cable internet, plenty of cheap thai restaurants catering for Thai, ie cheap and close to WS.

Also soi bongkot or korpai, again Thai areas, cheap accommodation, food and close to everywhere

i live in the centre of pattaya and its great as you have everything you want close to you.

i wouldn't want to be on the dark side or jomtien.

my mate live there for a year but he enjoyed it and would still hit Walking Street then drive home but things are changing now in pattaya and there's more and more police checks.

we now take one bike into town and we get a taxi back, 2 taxis one to drive my bike and me and one to take my girl then to 2 drives go back together

this way we don't drive after drinking..

That's a good point.

Though, a place outside the "Handsum Man" zone may be preferable because after a while the closeness drives you crazy.

Ordinary things like going to the 7/11 for milk and bread become like running the gauntlet. Not because of the girls, God Love Them, but after a while it stops being special.

Also the dodgy characters that inhabit this zone will spoil your impression of LOS.

Plus the girls get to know your face so lose their enthusiasm.

I reckon a place out a bit, but on a baht bus route is preferable.

Geez, that's a lot of trouble to have a few drinks.. better than a DUI charge though I guess

I'm also finding that riding the bike between Jomtien and central Patts every day I use a lot of fuel.. then there's no gas stations anywhere, so I have to go all the way up to Sukhumvit. Pain in the ass.

Big mistake for me renting in Jomtien, but I'm stuck here for a month since I paid already.

no not really it cost me 60 baht "the price of a bottle of beer" as we are only using one motorbike taxi and we get into town for free then home safe.

i do know of thai's getting picked up now for drunk driving in patts as well as falangs and there's no paying your way out, you get banged up until the next morning then to the court to see the judge.
