Prolific Thief In Chiang Mai Arrested

CHIANG MAI – Janurary 21,2014 [PDN]: Pol.Col.Somchai Intasothi, director of Maerim police station, Chiang mai, Pol.Lt.Col. Supatch Jantornsap, vice detective director, Pol.Lt.Col.Somdul Wairak, detective inspector, arrested Mr.Chaiwat Wongthaidee, 27 years old man, with 4,795 baht cash, a chisel, a lot of prying equipment, black and white Kawasaki, electrical appliances such as televisions, electric guitar, keyboards, ATM card, more than 30 persons’ ID cards.

On January 20, the police were notified that a thief had broken into a house in Banhongnork area, Maerim, the thief had stole more than 20,000 baht cash. The owner came back and caught the thief in the act and cried for help so some locals helped the owner to catch him, but he climbed out of the window and fled.

After the police examined the scene they found a motor bike parked on the road near the house which the assumed it belonged to the thief, so they watched and waited nearby for over 8 hours until a man approached it, so they apprehended him and took him back to his room to search it where they found, electric equipment, ID cards, ATM cards that belonged to other people, so the seized them all for evidence.

Upon questioning Mr.Chaiwat, pleaded guilty. He told police that he wanted to study at the Faculty of Public Administration, in a well-known University in Lampang, and in the future he wanted to be a police officer or administrative officers, but he was poor, so he decided to break into dorm rooms, and public houses, in Muang district , Lampang, to steal property to make money which he had done over 30 times before. So the police arrested him to be prosecuted further according to Thai law.
