Pattaya Police Officer Slapping Incident Goes Viral

PATTAYA – December 30, 2013 [PDN]; journalists were informed that there was a video clip of a Pattaya traffic police officer who had assaulted a foreign tourist was posted on youtube the clip’s title: “The police slapped the female Russian tourist’s face” with the length of approximately 30 seconds that caused many viewers to share this video clip on social networks such as Facebook and criticized the action of this police officer until this video clip was distributed widely by online media.

Later, the journalists went to inspect the scene which was in front of a brand name handbag shop that is located on second road Pattaya, Moo 10 Tambon Nong Prue, Amphur Banglamung, Chonburi province, whilst there they found the CCTV in front of the shop had recorded the incident clearly.

From questioning the witnesses the journalists perceived that a female Russian tourist rented a motorbike to ride with her friend in Pattaya city but she had “apparently” violated a traffic regulation so she was issued with a ticket and fined by the police which her boyfriend went to pay at the police station but later the police brought 2 men to seize the motorbike but this female Russian tourist resisted and didn’t consent to the bike being seized so she made a video recording of the police acting in an un professional manner, whilst videoing the incident a police officer walked up to her and slapped her violently around the face and walked away as if nothing happened. The action of the police officer had greatly ruined the tourism image of Thailand.

The offending officer was a Pol. Sen. Sgt. Maj. which after distribution of the video clip the police officer still didn’t come out to be responsible or explain the incident, so the journalists would like the superior police to inspect this case because otherwise this incident may greatly further ruin the image of the police and tourism of Thailand.
