I have  looked at my provider and  call costs while Roaming over seas( rediculous).. i have looked at Buying a Thai sim card but then they cant contact me directly, I can leave a voiceMail on my existing Mobile number with my thai Number???????,  am i able to forward my existing number to thai number at a reasonable cost.. any other options would be great your thoughts please :GoldenSmile1:

Aust post offer  a travel sim,new sim for your own phone, new number but you can divert your own number to it,worth some research,,,

Use a specialist travel sim company such as tru sim, forward your mobile to this number (au to au) and you can dial out from it at reasonable rates while in Thailand

You can buy a cheap dual sim phone for 100 bucks ozzie - woolies or tukcom when you get here.

I roam to receive calls on my oz sim, and use my thai sim or viber to call back using unlimited data and free call. Buy a Happy sim at 7 eleven when you arrive and you get unlimited data for a month. 500baht max cost

If they call me and I answer it's because it's important and I pay the roam charge,,, if I don't answer it's because It's pattaya and hey I'm busy ;)

Thanks for all the advice guys,  I am in 2 minds but i may  setup a skype number and forward my AUS  number to that and that gets forwarded to that 2 my Thai Number, avoiding the roaming charges at both ends...

its unfortunate but I have to be able to contact my clients directly if needed.. i will use email as primary but if an emergency pops up they can contact me...

As this is my first trip I will learn from this and see what works best for me....

thanks  all

Hi big_daddy_pimp,

Been a while since these posts, but I am interested to understand what the result of your decision was (costs?) and if you have come up with a better solution.

I too run a business in Australia and need to find best approach to calling clients in Australia as required while I am working from Thailand.

Look forward to hearing what you learnt or what solutions others have come up with.

Cheers.

Same solution for me, nothings changed.

Run a biz in OZ, dual sim phone always, have telstra sim and thai happy sim,

I try to do as much via email and don't do much talking unless it's urgent back to OZ

If I was a big talker I'd go the skype or viber etc, option, to call back home using the thai happy sim data.

if you are with TELSTRA , you can buy a travel pack that will give you a set amount of data and calls whilst overseas, you can get a monthly package .

if you ring them you can buy the package over the phone  but do not forget to have international roaming activated or you will be in deep shit !

as you would expect from TELSTRA the packages are expensive , but they do work well.
