Was thinking of seeing this until I read multiple reviews that said it is a confusing mess loosely based on the famous Japanese historical incident. Anyone actually seen it?

I saw it a couple of days ago in Bkk. I thought it was entertaining, about like "Last Samurai" meets "Crouching Tiger/Hidden Dragon" but better than both of those.

There's two ways you can look at it:  If you're going to watch this and try and compare it to the actual tale of the 47 Ronin, you will be disappointed.  Why?  Because it's not very accurate in comparison to the real tale and for entertainment purposes, they added things like a half breed (Keanu Reeves character), demons, witches, and dark magic. If your curious about the actual tale, google it or read an overview from this page......http://www.47ronins.com/  

 

The other way you can look at it is to just go and watch it yourself for the entertainment value, which is what I did...... and I thought it was pretty good.  Pretty good story line, lots of action, and some really nice special effects.  Let's be honest, Keanu Reeves is not the best actor on this planet, but I think he did just enough to make his character believable in this movie.  Not the best movie of the year but I thought it was a decent watch......cheers!
