Paper slips from Taxi Attendants at BKK airport

I searched the forums and could not find any info on this. The two times I've arrived at the taxi stand of BKK airport, I receive a slip from the taxi stand attendant after stating my destination and before being introduced to my driver. Every time the taxi driver has wanted to negotiate going off meter and has asked for me to hand over the slip of paper. What am I legitimately expected to do with this slip of paper?

I should add that my flights from Japan have always gotten me in around midnight and I usually head to Bangkok for the night, so arranging transportation with Mr.T, etc is not an option.

Thank you very much in advance.

Whilst I'm no expert on the matter. I can say 100% don't give the driver your reciept. You'll lose all evedence of suggested price.

Thank you kindly for the reply. I can't read Thai, so I didn't know if that was a receipt or instructions so that the driver doesn't need to decipher my English or just some paperwork that the drivers need. I appreciate the advice.

The receipt has details of the taxi drivers car number etc so it is your protection against him ripping you off or the driver or car being unfit to drive.  I've used it twice to lodge a complaint, once when the guy broke down in the fast lane of the motorway a mile away from the airport, great hour in the central reservation until a kindly limo driver stopped, and once when the taxi I took to Pattaya had broken shocks and bunny hopped and pulled violently to the left after any uneven piece of road.

As mentioned by simplesimon, you should not give the receipt.

Also, you can arrange pickup with Mr T or any other taxi company even for mid nights or later.

There are 3 parts to the taxi form.  One is kept by the booking staff, the second is for the driver (the booking person writes your destination on it), and the third is for the passenger (shows the taxi ID).  The passenger's part is written in both English and Thai - as well as giving details of the taxi, it also informs you about the airport surcharge, responsibility for toll charges and how to make a complaint.

Thank you very much for the information. I use Mr T to go back to the airport from Pattaya when available. My flight is always at 5am and I leave Pattaya after midnight. I have filmed promotion videos for a hotel near Nana Plaza which has resulted in special rates and personalized service from the staff, so I am always certain to go to BKK for at least one night upon arriving in Thailand. I will not hand over the entire slip next time. Thank you for your generous comments.

If he won't flip the meter, take the slip back to the girl/guy that gave it to you. Maybe better not to throw your shit in the trunk. I've yet to have a problem, but it seems it's widespread now.  I'll be flying into BKK again the end of Jan. I'll speak English not Thai to the driver & see what happens. This year I flew outta BKK maybe 8 X. I've been flying into DMK mostly. The taxi queue there usually sucks, so I go up to 'Departures'. Even there, I've yet to have a driver who wouldn't flip the meter.
