A smart rich kid strangled himself in the garage of the family home. He was strictly prohibited to play games and play with friends. He was told to study and had to attend many special classes at the weekends.

KHONKAEN – December 21, 2013 [PDN]; Pol.Maj.Col. Shinnapan Sangkaw, detective specialist, Banped sub police station, Maung, Khonkaen, were notified that a kid had strangled himself in a mansion, on Maliwan road, he rushed to the crime scene with police from the finger print department.

At the crime scene in the garage of the mansion they found a blue Honda civic sedan, Kor Kor 9671, Khonkaen, which had a damaged roof and hanging above the car from the ceiling of the garage they found the 16 years old grade 10 from a well-known school in Khonkaen.

Pol.Maj.Col.Shinnapan revealed that, the boy was the third child of the family, the father was the owner of a big wood transformation company. He was a brilliant student, all the teachers and friends loved him and his friends used to come and study with him. His parents hired foreign teachers to teach him at the weekends, and he had to study special classes in the urban municipality area.

He had no spare time, no leisure, only online game and a computer. One day his sister blamed him for always playing games and why doesn’t he help his father which made him upset and went very quiet. The night before the incident happened his sister warned him not to play games too much, and told him to sleep in her room because she did not want him to play games anymore.

At 08.40, the sister woke up and saw her younger brother lying next to her wide awake, so she asked him if he cannot sleep, he said no. He then got up, had a shower got dressed ready for his special class. He then walked out of his sister’s room. After an hour had passed the security guard came to take him to school, but found him dead in the garage.

The police sent the body to Khonkaen samukkee utis foundation to perform an autopsy, at Sri Nakarin hospital Khonkaen, before returning it back to the relatives for the funeral.

When I was a 16 year old lad my big sister would constantly tell me off for playing Nintendo and not helping dad in the garden. I didn't kill myself. There's more to the story

Doesn't seem to me based on the scant information from the article that the sister said anything extraordinarily harsh to her brother.

I am unsure as to why people are putting so much into the sisters action? surely it had more to do with how hard his parents were pushing him.

 

R.I.P to the kid though, what ever was the driving factor to him topping himself, it is a loss to the world.

This kid is never given the chance to be a kid and is pushed to far with

Whilst there are undoubtedly some people that the world will not miss if they top themselves, most suicides are good people with mental health problems and don't deserve to die.  Certainly a 16 year old kid with a full life ahead of him didn't rate hanging from the roof of his family's garage, and some of the comments here in response are a bit sad in themselves.

 

Teenage self-harm and suicidality is a growing problem globally and Thailand will be no exception.  The young are exposed to pressures we didn't experience as severely when we were their age, and some are just not emotionally equipped to deal with it.

 

This poor kid seems to be a victim of his own family's pressure to be an over-achiever.  Without normal social interaction and friendships, he had even less chance to survive.  Yes, there's more to the story than the article contains, there always is.

 

As complete strangers we are not expected to care about the death of someone we didn't know.  We can be human and show some compassion though.  A young life is ended for no good reason, and whatever your opinion of the Thai people the family and more especially the sister will be suffering now and will do so for the rest of their lives.
