Great if you live in Melbourne  :Cuss:

What about way back? Usually they hit you then

Sometimes, but I've had a few return fares for $400-$500, you just need to be a little flexible and plan ahead.

Out of curiosity I punched in some fares for early March and found return for $442. Its carryon only and no meal, but the savings can be put to good use in Thailand :-)

One more reason I love-hate coming over XMAS-NY

Jetstar and their website just frustrates. Almost every click costs more money.

Towards the end of the process, pick your seat and there is no "I don't care option" any seat you pick even in the middle, costs at least $10 more. You have to sit somewhere. What a bunch of crooks,  by the end of the process you are just fed up and it was cheaper to fly most of the other low cost airlines.

Yes there is ...further done the page it has a "skip this option" I never pick a seat as long as I get to Pattaya I don't give a rats.

Im not much of a fan either, they advertised $599 out of SYD. After I went through to the "ill fly on any day" part the absolute cheapest fare was $674, by the time you got to the put your card details screen it had gone to $738. I was now just over $100 off a direct- fully catered flight.

Please stop assisting this fraud perpetrated by people. Only about a third of the add on cost are "taxes" of any kind. The rest of the "fees" are fuel surcharges etc which are 100% part of the fare and that money goes 100% to the airline.

Real taxes will be identical regardless of the airline (if same route & same day of travel).

Ironically its not the airlines who call them taxes - they'd get fined to high hilt if they did. Its travel agents, media and general public who keep calling them "taxes".

It's not actually that bad once you are familiar with all the ways they try and add on everything.  Other than luggage (if you need it) you can avoid all the others.  Choose the direct payment option and you get out of the credit card surcharge.  They will try and lead you into travel insurance, carbon offset bullshit, donations etc but you just have to read it carefullly and click no. It is also a good idea to join the Jetstar Club.  You get a voucher which covers most of the cost of the club and you also get some super duper deals occasionally.

the best way to avoid the high return fare is to go to Manila or Saigon  from Bangkok

The advertised price just lures people to look at their flights - then you find out it's ONE WAY,and every item is added on to the price...... it's just too cumbersome. If it would be just a short flight of 1 or 2 hours I wouldn't care so much, but for the 9 hour trip to LOS, I prefer to have my free drinks, my meals, my Entertainment and my check-in luggage.

The same goes for the Air Asia flights.

What do you expect for $199 ?? Return ? :LOL2:

Jetstar "Sale" is also offered in N.Z. Very simple & easy to understand IF you pick your way carefully through the bullshit. There is no doubt that they are bargains IF you don't want to eat airline food, & have only 10kg carry-on baggage! Both these options suit me 100% & therefore the fare is only NZ$880 R/T!

You cannot pre-select a seat BUT QF & many other airlines make significant charges for this anyway. In my case I shall be taking sandwiches, biscuits etc which I must prefer to all airline non-edible crap!

My cheapest alternative at the moment is $1429 with Qantus, this I used a few weeks ago & it was the WORST airline experience I"ve had since my last trip with the same crowd of inconsiderate greedy bastards!

GOOD-ON YOU JETSTAR for giving us a cheaper no frills option!

BTW A tip that I always do when I have found the best/cheapest deal, I take the details down to Flight Centre & they have ALWAYS honoured their promise to match the cheapest fare +++ give a $20 voucher each time! Again BTW they have never charged me a booking fee provided I pay CASH!

Fair point. I eat prior to boarding, take an iPad and swallow a sleeping pill makes it easy. The savings are put to good use in Thailand.

If after all the add ons the price is creeping up to and over $500 then I start looking at regular carriers that may have a special and pay the extra for full service. Malaysian and Royal Brunei are good for this as they are competing with Air Asia. Lately though, even Qantas have had fares for as little as $700.

They have extended the sale, but this is from a lot more airports in Aus not just Melb.

airasia is pretty good too . I fly from Adelaide..it can be as low as $200 each way...I think this is a new route...I used to have to go through melbourne or perth to get low prices
