My friend recommended the Nikon Coolpix P7000 and the Canon S110, but I thought I'd see what you guys had for me. If anyone has any recommendations please let me know. I know some of you like to carry those 5 foot long cameras, but I don't think I can do that :P

What I would like:

-200-400$ range prefered, but can go above or below

-Preferably can fit in my jeans pocket, but not absolutely necessary

-Has auto features, which I am sure all do

-Although camera is small and doesn't cost to much, still takes good/great photos

Please let me know

I am very pleased with my 2008 Lumix TZ5 but am looking to upgrade to Lumix TZ35 (16.i MP and 20 x zoom) Price in UK £180 but have been unable to get in Thailand so far. It is the TZ40 without GPS, Wifi and touch screen. A bit bigger than many compacts but stil goes in a trouser pocket

You don't have one in your telephone? Easy to carry and everything. I have 12Mgpx in my telephone, I think better quality than a lot of cameras.

I would not call £450 for the P7800 a budget  camera.

When it comes to the quality of the shots my Nikon D3 easily outperforms my Nikon P7100 which in turn easily outperforms my Samsung S4...

...however, I bought the Samsung simply for always having a "good enough camera" with me and I have never been disappointed for doing that.

The camera technology in Point n shoots/Mobiles has taken huge steps the last couple of years so it actually dont matter that much which one you buy. They are all good enough...

I LOVE my S100 and am constantly surprised at how well the photos turn out -- on my last trip to Pattaya, I took a bunch in Hollywood and many turned out great despite the obvious lack of lighting.  As you say, there is NO comparison between the photos it takes and those I can take with my iPhone.

Aren't the S110 and S120 (the newer models) well-within that price range?

Yes, they are, but I thought I'd ask a forum of photographers what their thoughts were before I committed to a purchase. :)

 Can you provide a sample/s

I checked a recent review and it said the S120 was £449

Sent you a PM with a couple of sample photos.

Since some of the girls in the photos are NOT BGs (they were friends of the TG that I BF'd), I am not comfortable posting their photos on the board.

If its ok, I'd love to see some samples from your S120. Will I notice much of a difference between a 110 and 120?

Will PM them to you -- it is S100 (not the 110 or the 120).  I'm FAR from a "photographer," but the photos usually turn out pretty good.

I think the 110 and 120 are both much cheaper than the 100, because the 100 is no longer in production.

Canon S110 $219.00 at Adorama and free shipping inside the US. I love my S100 and in another year I'll probably buy the S120 when the

price is reduced to the same as the S110 is now.

My coworker just bought the LX7 new, and they really like it.  That Ebay price is great, but doubt if it will stay that cheap...

One note, it is not something that would easily tuck into a pants pocket. A large pocket on cargo pants would work, but not into a regular front pocket on a pair of jeans or slacks.

Bought the Canon S110 a few months ago and very happy with it .

Compact , easy to carry around , good in low light and best colour

reproduction from all the compacts i've seen so far .

Thai price 9500Bht .

My desktop Computer does not have Wifi so i assume these new cameras with Wifi will not transfer.. I have Wifi through my 3BB Router on phone line can use with my netbook but was told no use with desktop when i bought a 10 Mb Wifi card when 3bb was especially slow and was thinking on cancelling..

Would a USB-Wifi connection work?

The new Canon S120 just came out last month here in Thailand. I had been reading the reviews on it for a while as I had been looking at the S110 to purchase but I'm glad I waited for the S120. I am 100% pleased with this very pocketable little high quality camera. The image quality of the pictures is phenomenal. It easily goes in your jeans/walking shorts pocket, and fits so comfortably in the hand. Great bright screen and a f1.8 lens makes it so nice for superb low light situations. I've owned many cameras and looked at and considered several other cameras mentioned in the posts on this thread. After a lot of reading and research I got the Canon Power Shot S120. Go and read all the reviews you can find online and while there are tons of fine and nice pocketable cameras out there in the marketplace, I highly recommend the S120. You won't be sorry if you get this camera. Amazon has it for under $400 if you are in the USA. I paid $425 for mine here in Pattaya. Good luck and happy shooting....
