Where is the best German Resturant?

Recommended Posts

I've only eaten at the one on Pattaya Central South just up from Walking Street... (Zum Simpl)...

Great pig knuckle (too big!!!) and Sauerbrauten...

There must be some great ones in Nakula (perhaps cheaper too?)

Inquiring minds want to know...

Thanks...

Oh thats just so funny! Not

:P

'Not!' jokes are officialy the lowest form of wit though... Not.

OK I'll try again... German Restuarant...... You could probably find some decent suarkraut and bratwursts up past the Dolphin Roundabout if that stuff tickles your tastebuds....

There's a good pastie stall on the Beach Road.... but they aren't German.

Saddic ( ??? ),

A VERY popular place is Anton's, which is on the right hand side opposite Soi 18 in Naklua. It's been there years, it does a great buffet every evening, loads of choice including some Thai dishes too. It is a mix of German / Austrian i have been told. There is soup, a full salad bar, 15 odd main courses to help yourself to, plus a good selection of desserts too. All for 189 Baht. They also have a menu if you want something other than the buffet.

I have been many times and loved it on every occasion. Always felt stuffed afterwards as with food i have NO willpower.

One other good one, again very popular, is Die Gerhard, which is in the small Soi, 2nd on the right from the Dolphin roundabout. Near to the old Butterfly bar. They do a choice of set menus plus a full menu. Very good place.

Not German, but my favorite place to eat is the White Night in south Pattaya. 80% English / 20% Thai buffet, unique in Pattaya as far as i know for the dishes on offer each night.

Tried "das berliner"... It was ok... but they were out of half their menu items when I got there... Guess they are real popular with the Deutsch crowd...

Did Hopf a couple of days ago... limp lifeless pizza... Their beer was excellent though...

Will be revisiting "zum simple" on Thursday as their daily special that day is pig knuckle... yummm

Thanks guys...

Bei Gerhard on Naklua 33 is excellent and you can always pop into the Boutique Sexy a few doors down for your S and M requisites whilst you wait.

Otherwise, get up to jolly old Bangers and spend an evening at Lung Beer Jereman, Tawwandaeng (Tawandaeng German Brewery Hall)on Rama 3 where they brew the BEST beer in Thailand, without argument plus a great array of Thai and Germanesque food inthe company of 2,000 drunken Thai office workers and the HiSo set .

Drink the 5 litre towers of wheat beer at 120 baht per half-litre although they also have dark beer and pils.

They also have a fully-staged cabaret which is staggering in its professionalism even if it is directed by a disgaceful, if talented, American musician who has, sadly, gone completely native. The singers are fantastic, the dancers, divine and towards the end of the evening when they switch to mor-lam the place erupts into an orgy of dancing and singing.**

fan-bloody-tastic.

The best night out I've had with my trousers on.

**

To digress, have you noticed that despite the loathing and distain that Thais have for their Issan cousins they just love Issan music and food.

Guilty pleasures, methinks.

Last week I have been eating at the German Restaurant Taverne (“Deutsches Restaurant”, “Bürgerliche Küche”) on the corner of Naklua Road and Soi 18/1.
At first sight it looked good and the portions were (too) big, but the quality of the food was very poor.
The business was run by a Thai female, perhaps a widow of a German.
There were several Thai families and a very noisy, cigarette-smoking Russian.
Some prices:

Linsensuppe 135 baht,
Kaßler 230 baht,
Sauerbraten 250 baht,
Heineken 70 baht,

Warsteiner 120 baht,
toilet (for non-customers) 50 baht.
On a lighter note, the bill mentioned “Thank you for coming.”

Last week the German restaurant Bei Anton on Naklua Road opposite Soi 18 was closed.
So, I tried
Bei Gerhard instead on Naklua Road Soi 31 at the left-hand side near the end of the soi.
They happen to have two cheap daily specials.
The soup of the daily special (
Kraftbrühe mit Flädle) was excellent.
The
Sauerbraten came in a very big portion with a lot of Spätzle but, although it was not as bad as the one at Taverne on the corner of Naklua Road and Soi 18/1, it contained too much mustard and did not compare to the Sauerbraten at Bier Stüble on Soi 7.
Also at the defunct Thai-Europe Restaurant on Soi BJ the
Sauerbraten was even better.
There were several farang customers, at least some of them speaking German.
At a long table a farang had apparently invited his extended Thai in-law family.
Some prices:
soup of the daily specials (taken separately) 50 baht,

Flädlesuppe (normal à la carte price) 110 baht,
Sauerbraten 280 baht,
Heineken 80 baht,

Warsteiner 130 baht.

Does Bei Anton still exist?

At their previous location on Naklua Road, opposite Soi 18 is now a Kiss Food.

I thought they had moved nearby, but I couldn’t find them.

I will have to try it again, I had a couple of what they called sausages and some sauerkraut and mashed potatoes.   Sausage just okay more like a hot dog, sauerkraut cold, and potatoes just this side of soup.  very disappointed.   I will have to give it a try again, maybe an off day, I am rooting for it to be good

Stay away from Alt Heidelberg on Beach Road.

Waste your money elsewhere.
