So.. apparently what I need/can get for my purposes is a 90 day multiple entry ED visa.

It has one year validity...

If after 20 days, I leave for 10 days, when I return will I have 60, 70 or 90 days?

Consulate site is not much help.

:001_Thank_You5: in advance.

As it says 90 days multiple entry.

If you leave the country, your "first" entry visa runs out. So if you come back in to the country. Your second 90 day visa will begin.

Sweet, so I have another 90 days? You've done this?

If you leave Thailand before the visa expires and reenter you will get almost 15 months. The expiry date is 12months from the date of issue not the date you you entered

I just went down to Singapore last week for my Non-Imm ED visa.

2 weeks ago, I enrolled in a 200-hour language course in order to get all the required paperwork. They provided photocopies of everything required on the list from the Language school end ( as described on the website). In addition, I needed to supply a copy of my confirmed air ticket & a bank statement showing a balance over SGD5000 (> 128,000 baht).

I only asked for a single entry visa (SGD 100, about 2500 baht). The process was extremely painless and quick (just a few minutes at the counter). In order to save time, I had already downloaded and completed the visa application form available from their website. It is the same as the one available at the Embassy.

In my case, I need to go to Immigration in Jomthien to either extend the visa or ensure I have a suitable re-entry stamp if I leave the country.

In your case. If you manage to get (or already have) a multiple entry visa. Regardless of how short a visit you spend in Thailand, you should always get 90 days each time you return (during the 1-year validity of the visa).

On an ED visa you do not leave the country at all but treat it like a retirment visa. It is a one entry visa that is converted to a one year student visa with extensions as you progress. Leaving and returning might not yield what you think you are getting and you should know that when you go in to extend it you may start being asked to show you are learning Thai.

You ought to really research all the terms of an education visa.

Strange, for my visa they only want proof that I have 16k THB and no airline ticket. Thanks for the info you gave in the last bit though.

There is such a thing as a multiple entry ED visa though.

If they wanted me to speak Thai, I could, but the visa is not for a language school.

I read it wrong, I thought you had a multiple entry tourist visa. Don't know about the education visa.

Hmmm, sorry for my misleading comment earlier, it seems I had gotten some bad information and ED visas are indeed only single entry! What a bummer.
