6-month validity of passport

GF's Thai passport expires 16  August 2014. We are planning on going to Australia Jan 2014 and returning end April 2014, so I thought she had sufficient use in her passport for this trip. But today I read on Tiger Airlines site:

Passport must have a minimum 6-month validity from the latest date of travel. Otherwise, passenger will be denied boarding at the airport.

So does that mean she'll have trouble boarding a flight from Perth-S'Pore-BKK on around April 28th when she still has over 3 months left on her Thai passport?

Your best bet is to check with the airline. Ask them via email, print the reply and have it available when you check in.

Just phoned Tiger on this and they say she can board the flight BKK to Perth in Jan 2014 as she'll have sufficient passport validity but no way will they allow her to board the flight Perth to BKK in April 2014 as she'll have under 6 months left on her passport.

So that means she'll need to make a new passport. We're going now to the passport office at the Avenue. I've already spoken on the phone to VFS, they told me when she gets the new passport to send them via courier a copy of new passport, a copy of old passport, a copy of Visa Grant, fee of 535 Bt and they'll transfer the visa to new passport number.

All this is a drag but fortunately it can be sorted out fairly easily, fairly cheaply (1K THB for new passport and 535 Bt for transfer visa)

My fault for not picking this up earlier. I thought she had sufficient time on her passport, I thought the 6 months minimum applied to her entering Oz, I didn't realize it also applied to her returning to Thailand.

Guessing I would say that it is because she will be flying via Singapore.
