Does anyone know where I can download premium wordpress themes to test?

I have looked and looked , and the ones I have found I get an error when trying to install

Premium themes usually require that you pay for them, but there are high quality ones available for free that you can try. Are you running a third party or self hosted solution? Wordpress usually comes with a few default themes so you might try switching between them to make sure that is working. Then check that the theme is in the right location. In general, wordpress.org is a great resource for trouble shooting.

There are ways around it but usually I make my own templates...

Just make your own. It isn't difficult, and it'll be exactly what you want.
