Koh Chang Recommendations?

FlipperSoi8

Recommended Posts

Hi.....Looking at spending maybe 4 days and 3 nights in Koh Chang with a teerak (not sure which one yet!). Looking for some advice on where to stay and the best way to get there from Pattaya.

Accommodation: 4* hotel or beach front bungalow type place....reasonably close to any nightlife that there may be but also close to some nice/quiet beaches.

Any recommendations that fit the above criteria much appreciated. No budget.

What/how is the best/easiest means to get there from Pattaya.

What sort of nightlife is there and where is it located?

Any suggestions as an alternative to Koh Chang also with information asked for above?

Many Thanks,

Cheers,

The easiest way to get to Koh Chang is to get the mini bus ferry ticket. Any travel agent in Pattaya will have this option when you reserve a hotel. The best way is probably by a private car or taxi.

Every time I've been to Koh Chang I've stayed at White Sands Beach which is most developed beach area. There are loads of nice resorts right on the beach that have a good selection of bungalows and regular hotel rooms. The one I stayed at was Kacha Resort, another good choice is KC Resort. Look at the web sit IamKohChang.com for lots of good info on the island.

There is a small beer bar area at White Sand, but if you're with your 'girlfriend' already you probably won't be that interested in beer bars. Otherwise nightlife revolves around restaurants and beach bars. There are a couple of discos also.

This was my favorite beach bar when I was there a couple of years ago

Why not go to Samui and fly from Pats Airport or even go back into Bangers and fly anywhere in Thailand.

You are not looking that much more on time if any compared to getting a Bus down to Koh Chaing

Yes, that idea was at the back of my mind also. Does anyone have any recommendations as above for Koh Samui instead of Koh Chang? Same criteria et.c

Chawang Beach would be good or Lamai and pre book a Airport Collection as much much cheaper

Check SAWADEE.COM for hotels plus Weather in Samui will be better.

You always also Have Hua Hin or Chaing Mai

Flights to Samui are costly be about 300 Quid plus for both od you return

Chaing Mai Phuket or Krabi be about 140 for both of you not each return

Koh Chang is very nice. The mountains, beaches and overall scenery is very good. It is definitely a bring your own girl kind of place, however. So don't give up on your original idea. Once you consider the time it takes to travel to and from the airport, the preflight wait at the airport, and the luggage hassle involved with flying to one of the southern islands; the 3 hour overland trip to Koh Chang does not sound so bad. I rented a car for 5 days in Pattaya and drove to Koh Chang with my little BKK Go Go friend. We had a great time In Koh Chang. Having a car on Koh Chang was cool. It was easy to visit all the different beaches whenever we wanted. The beaches are not far apart, but they are separated by tropical verdant mountains. There is very little traffic on the island. Yeah, Koh Chang is small and relaxed. I like it. If you go to Koh Chang without a car, you will want to rent a little motor scooter to get around.

That said, Koh Samui is very beautiful too and well worth a trip or two. If I had a girl with me, I would go to Koh Chang. If I was solo, I would fly to Koh Samui. Koh Samui has a decent nightlife and you will meet some nice girls there.

Thanks for all the info guys....will keep it in mind for future reference. As I am undecided as to which teerak to take, I am probably gonna have about 4 nights in Patong with her. Less chance of them getting misguided romantic notions than the other places!! Will try one of the others after this trip when I am back again in November.

Koh Chang is much better than Koh Samui but September/October is rainy season on Koh Chang so not the best time to go .

Most restaurants ect are closed in these months .

Half way November things are starting up again .

White sand beach is the place to be .

Night club 'one' and the 'Jungle queen' with an awesome Phillie live band are good places to spend the evening/night .

It will be very quiet on Koh Chang but I went last October and it rained about 4 times at the most in the usual 2 hour Thailand downpour spells. Pretty much everything was open and easy to get a seat or table in any venue you desired. Having Jungle Queen and One club close together is very handy, there is also Sabay Bar.  I will be back very soon

Been to Koh Chang 3 times ....twice in November and the weather was excellent both times...and once in July....again weather excellent.

Each time I booked with the 35 Group...which is located about 100 yards from the top of Pattaya Tai. Cost 720 baht for mini bus and ferry (return). They pick you up from your hotel or a pre arranged location. Usually places available so can book a couple of days before you want to go.

Once there I stayed at the 15 Palms hotel each time....nice enough place, clean, adequate.

I found plenty of nice girls there so in my opinion no need to worry about taking one with you....but if you want then fine.

Not bustling like Pattaya.....that's why I like it.....nice to have a relaxing change for three or four days.

I'll be going solo again in November probably......or might venture somewhere new for afew days

Koh Samui - Ban Chaweng Beach Resort & Spa was very nice....the deluxe villas are good.

Samui is relatively expensive for Thailand.  Sometimes the weather there can be bad.

  • 4 weeks later...

I would highly recommend 15 Palms right on White Sand Beach. They have the best sunset and beanbags on the beach, you can ask for much more. But if nothing is available there go to Paddy's Palms, good clean rooms and food as well. Very well done Irish pub.
