Traditional Thai Music vs Bluegrass

Recommended Posts

Have a listen to these two pieces.

I'm quite fond of Bluegrass and love these old, melodic Thai tunes as well.

Listen to the Bluegrass and then the Thai. I wonder if Bill Monroe was in anyway influenced by traditional Thai music.

Thais have got more funk than that white boy music - although this new (above) thai stuff sounds like a bad MIDI file played on a childs casio keyboard from the 80's

Love this old stuff (this whole album is great)

I quite like that type of thai song, but the arrangement/production in that second video is terrible. Bad MIDI synth, indeed.

That Sound of Siam album sounds like The Shit™, though. I think I'm going to have to buy it.

(http://soundwayrecords.greedbag.com/buy/the-sound-of-siam-leftfield-luk/ has it, for instance. And, £10.99 for 19 tracks of that stuff? I am so there.)

Love Bill Monroe. I thought that was Marty Stuart with him, great stuff. Down the road from where I work is one of the top bluegrass concert halls anywhere. See a lot of good shows there. I'm going to a combination beer and bluegrass festival, aptly called 'Brewgrass', in a couple of weeks. Looking forward to it.

Last time I was in BKK, my friend turned me onto this cool record store. They have a look of old vinyl, from Thailand and elsewhere. They also promote concerts. Worth checking out if you're in BKK and into that sort of thing.
