I don't think that many Thais are drinking coffee. Therefore a lot of instant coffee is used, because for them it's black and smells like coffee. If they don't drink it, they don't know the difference between good and bad. But there are many opportunities to buy a good capucchino in shopping malls or branches of international coffee brands.

Some of the best ready ground coffee and beans can be purchased in Foodland and all the other expat orientated supermarkets, look out for the brand called "Hill Tribe". It is grown and produced in Thailand in the North of the country, try it you'll like it. :GrinNod1:

There are a lot of Starbucks coffee shops on beach road and second road. They taste identical to the coffee in a U.S Starbucks.

The imported and starbucks coffee is a rip off, but if you have a maker , the local Coffee , not just HIlltrible is great value and tastes great.

If you drink coffee in the bars, its cheap nescafe shit and tastes the same - shit, if you drink in the Starbucks etc, be careful , they reuse the milk heating it up a number of times - got the runs a few times from Stabucks Latte - also one of the guys working in one of the other coffe shops (not Starbucks) went and had a crap in the bogs in the Avenue second RD , whilst I was there and when finished walked out - did not wash his hands-

sometimes you don't just get the runs here cos of the Thai food.

Never had issues in Cafe Au Bonn Penn opposite the Lek. Half decent butty as well, not cheap though. Good selection of newspapers in there.

Also in soi buakaow, where the tuesday/Friday market is held there is a coffee/baker place called benjamit bakery. great coffee, great service and only 40 baht. closed on saturdays. Cafe pattini also has really good coffee as someone said and a very pleasant place.

My biggest problem with starbucks is not the coffee but the price. I cant come at paying US prices for a coffee in thailand where they are only paying local wages. !!

You have to be carefull of the mobile street vendors cart coffee. I don't know what it is but I'm sure it's not coffee.
