this disgusts me...

Saudi Arabian Airlines reportedly is discriminating against Israeli citizens by refusing to let them fly from U.S. airports.

The New York Postexternal-link.png reported that for customers booking on online, the airline’s website has no drop-down menu options for anyone holding an Israeli passport, even though, as the Post pointed out,  there is a drop-down menu option for Antarctica citizens. The airline appears to  prevent passengers simply looking to transfer in Saudi Arabia to another country, as well.

“No city in the world has closer ties to Israel than we do, and yet Israeli citizens are being discriminated against right here at JFK. It’s not only illegal; it’s an affront to who we are,” said public advocate, and mayoral candidate, Bill de Blasio, who conducted a recent telephone sting on the Mideast nation’s airline.

When a member of de Blasio called the airline --trying to book a ticket from JFK to Mumbai, India -- identifying themselves as an Israeli passport holder, the caller was told by an agent that they would not be able to fly.

“Since you have Israeli nationality, you will not be allowed to go on Saudi Airlines,” the agent said, after consulting a supervisor.

Federal law says an “air carrier or foreign air carrier may not subject a person in air transportation to discrimination on the basis of race, color, national origin, religion, sex or ancestry.”

Strange that Fox mention it.....the largest shareholder in News Corp outside the Murdochs is a Saudi prince.

Sounds like a lot of hot air to me. I doubt many Israelis would want to travel on such airlines anyway. I guess their contention (rightly or wrongly) is that the country is not considered as legitimate by the airline's home country.

sure.

they're not the insane bigots the arabs are.

Well it's not surprising as you have difficulty getting into Saudi with just an Israeli stamp in your UK passport. Ditto for getting into Israel with a number of Arab stamps. I know you can get 2 passports for legitimate business reasons, usually to facilitate getting visas but regular travel to Israel/ Arabia is also a valid reason.

Incidentally I think you need a business visa to enter Saudi anyway. They don't do tourists except for the Hajj and pilgrims.

Don't know if you have been following world history since 1948, but Israel is at war with the Arab world (except Egypt).  Do you think the Americans allowed Japanese citizens to travel 1942-1945?  Or Britain allow Germans during WWII?

They're not at war, and Saudi has officially committed to a peaceful resolution in Palestine.  Israel believes Saudi is a stabilising influence in the region, and even agreed with the sale of weapons to Saudi.

That being said, they are not friends, no diplomatic relationship (officially) and lots of stupid politics.  The ban on people with Israeli stamps in their passport and refusing to allow Israelis to travel on their national airline is just part of this, but there are worse things going on.  Like the public executions, shocking treatment of women, and zero religious freedom (to the point of death).

Even Malaysia has a page in their passport saying valid for travel to all countries except Israel.  Politics.

Anyone who lives within their means suffers from a lack of imagination

you ought to study up on your history a bit...  and common carriers have an obligation to NOT do what saudi air is doing.

You're right Peter, it is radical islamist politics at its worst.  Saudi Arabia is full of examples of this caveman style nonsense.

I wish my country would shun Saudi Arabia, but we suck up to them for their oil... revolting.

Saudi Airlines? Really? Who gives a fuck.

I'm shocked anyone could be surprised by this.

.... On the other hand, I'm sure the US will spend several hundred million dollars to correct this intolerable situation :)

All deplorable things, but you seem to be replying to a different point than the one I was making. Perhaps you meant to quote a different post.

That will prevent quite a few members of the US government to fly with this airline on their Israeli passports...

daddee you should read history as well... Israel was taken by force from Arabs in 40's http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/History_of_Israel

There are more Arabs n mosques in Israel because it was Arab territory which was taken by force from Arabs. What would you do if someone comes to your home and take more than 80% from you and then you claim that you are generous because you let their things in "your" house which was in fact not yours...

As for bashing any religion, try to understand what is wrong inside us. We dont look at the evil inside us but blame religions.

Anyway, if SAA does not allow Israeli passport holders to fly is because they dont recognize Israel as a country, neither does Malaysia and Pakistan.

as an Israeli - i would never dream on flying with an Arabic company that dosnt have a peace treaty with my country!

if you set aside Egypt and Jordan, i would never feel safe to fly in an Arabic airline. even going to Sinai that was once an Israeli territory and that was given to Egypt in the peach treaty will make me uncomfortable as hell.

thy don't like us, thy don't want us to be there, why would i endorse any of their business?! i stopped buying AMD CPU and graphic cards since it was bought buy an Arabic company. i bought an hybrid car to stop pumping my money towards the Arabic oil machine. why the hell would i want to fly Saudi Air?

and i promise you, expect for the most radical Israelis, all of us will not fly on an Arabic airline.

btw - to then one who asked about EL AL - no, thy do not discriminate. everybody can fly EL AL. thy are expensive as hell, but that is another issue LOL

Before you get to high and mighty on the USA know that a passport holder with a stamp from visiting

Cuba can be denied entry to the USA. When visiting Cuba as I understand with Israel they will put

your entry stamp on a separate piece of paper/page (if requested) so it can be removed when visiting the

USA/ Arab countries.

Duh. They kind of don't like them or acknowledge their right to exist so I reckon we can extend that to not letting them fly. I highly doubt many Israelis are booking Saudi Air flights. I would also assume that Saudi Air does stop off in Saudi on the way to/from destinations so there's no way an Israelis would be allowed to stop off either

I guess they'll have to use one of the 1000 other airlines then, who wants to fly Saudi anyway?

Israeli stamp in your passport and you can't enter Middle East countries either. Of course, I am sure Israel's national airline are openly inviting Saudis or Arabs onto their planes ....

From what i understand, Saudi do not recognize Israel officially and as such will not allow person without a passport to fly ie Israeli passport in their opinion is not legitimate.

HOWEVER, i believe its illegal to do from US to other destinations if not going through Saudi

Lots of land has been taken by force throughout history.  Turks slaughtered hundreds of thousands of Greeks when they took over Constantinople.  As a Greek, I try my best to accept that it is now Istanbul.  We lost.  Shit happens.  The Pontians are still without their homeland.  We can learn to accept that it was in the past and try to work and live together peacefully, or we can continue to fight over it and teach our children how to hate so they can continue the fight.

Israel doesn't let Palestinians in Gaza fly anywhere from Gaza.

They destroyed the Airport paid for by the EEC.

And controls how far Gaza fishermen can go out to sea to fish. Known as collective punishment.
