I will be needing a new visa soon and am planning of a visit to Perth. I sent them an email asking what documents where required for a multiple entry non-immigrant type-O visa. The required documents are below.

You must provide us all documents below...
1. An original passport or travel document or certificate of identity with validity not less than 6 months upon arrival in Thailand.
2. A copy of airline ticket or travel itinerary confirming date of your entry and departure. If there is a one way ticket only, a statement from traveller outlining travel plans in Thailand will be accepted.
3. A recent Australian passport size (4x6) photo taken within last 6 months without wearing glasses or headgear (photocopy not acceptable)
4. If you're not an Australian Passport Holder, please make a copy of your Australian (electronic) Visa or a proof of residency in Australia.
5. Visa fee in Cash, Money order or Bank Cheque payable to Royal Thai Consulate Perth.
6. A pre-paid, addressed Express Post Platinum ONLY return envelope must be provided (Visa fee in Money order or Bank Cheque payable to Royal Thai Consulate Perth) for applicants who apply by post.
7. A copy of proof of relationship between applicant and spouse/family member i.e. Marriage Certificate or Birth Certificate, House Registration.
8. A letter from spouse/family member verifying current status of relationship and support for applicant's application.
9. A copy of his/her Thai National Identification Card or Thai Passport
10. A copy of his/her Thai House Registration
11. Bank statement: Balance in the account must be at least $50,000 AUD.

I'm surprised at the $50k requirement.

If you have a property in Perth then you can get your bank to convert your account to an Equiity Access Account which effectively means that you can borrow against an agreed equity amount in the account. 50k would be easy to get and your statement shows you have $50k in the account. The best part is that you don’t pay uness you draw from the account so on paper you have 50K but practically you don’t borrow the money unless you need it. No interest virtual loan.

I did this when I bought a couple of Pinoy girls over and need to show that I could support them for 6 months.  It was the Aussie government wanting this but the same should apply to a visa from the Thai government.

There are some that only employ words for the purpose of disguising their thoughts.

I effectively have a loan like that. I am just surprised it is so high. I think the legal requirement is 800000 Baht (about $29k). I have asked if evidence of income will be accepted instead. I will report back when I have the answer.

It is a trip I would be doing without the need for a new visa.

Just a warning about this consulate. Unlike the old one do not expect to get any visa that you are not eligible for. It appears the the woman who takes the application also makes the decision (ie it looks like a one person operation). The woman is Thai and she is very strict. Make sure that you think about any documents that they would in Thailand for something similar.

I emailed her before applying for the visa and asked what documents were required. What she didn't tell me is that if the wife's name had changed the document detailing this name change is also required. Luckily she took pity on us and told us that a visa will be issued. It may have been different if my wife was not with me in the office.

Just an update to this. I found out at a Loy Krathong festive in Perth yesterday that there is also a sonsul. However, she does make the visa decision.

I forgot to mention that it may be possible to get your passport back very quickly. I was told that I could have picked up my passport after an hour.
