Everywhere Changes future Pattaya

Featured Replies

I have only known Pattaya for 5 years, I wish I had found it sooner.

I have noticed many changes in those 5 years and particularly recently, not just that the "real" tourism market, is just not having an effect on BF's girls expectations of fees. Yes beer has got dearer, hence you see many of both gender walking down the street bottle in hand day and night, the hotels are either getting costlier and selective in booking requirements. Flights although subject to all the inflationary aspects, prices have escalated, my first flight in 2005 was £328 now it is always around £600.

I will still keep tripping to LOS and unless things change even more radically, I still hope to retire to LOS or elsewhere in SEA.

Economics 101 prices always go up.

Very true, yet if the income of your market goes down, every market gets drawn into the degenerate scenario.

Sure, prices will go up. I don't think it's that bad, considering Thailand's been a booming economy for years now.  For airfees, lodging and food, bike/car rentals, I still pay the same prices I did 10 yrs ago. For me it's just the nightlife that's become a lot dearer.

On a sidenote, I always wondered why beer is so expensive in LoS. Even in supermarkets it's more  expensive then back home.

I don't think prices have gone up that steeply in Pattaya, not compared to prices in London for example.

You get what you pay for but if you are on a tight budget, you can still get a 500 baht room, find 40 Baht beers, eat 30 baht noodles, and get laid for 500 baht, travelling around on 10 baht transport.

Flight prices are up the world over, but if you are flexible and travel at the right times you can still get reasonably cheap flights. I live in Asia, and can travel to Angeles, Phnom Penh, Yangon, Kuala Lumpur, Ho Chi Minh, all for under 5000 baht return.

Its one reason why guest house have not felt such a pinch because where guys used to stay in 1000baht+ Hotels they are saving cash by staying in rooms that are often bigger for a big % less than hotel rates.

Yes...it's one of the reasons I always stay in guest houses.

Bigger and friendlier I think.

Are prices rising in LOS? yes, but same same in other nations. Compared to Western countries Patts is really cheap (esp in low season) take accomodation - 4* Hotel Nova Gold for under 30 GBP pn  and (top of the range) Guest Houses like China Garden 15 GBP....really good stays in them both. Value like this is simply unachievable back home.
