Is anyone over there at the moment or has been recently? I've been reading on trip advisor that it's also widely used by families. Will it be a mistake to consider it an option?

stayed there last christmas, doesn't have the feel of a mongers hotel. had GF with me didn't try and see if joiners fee applies

It is handy to soi six but otherwise not conveniently located.

If asked I would recommend for couples or family.

I can have this at home............................or this in LOS, thats why I go

Thanks Steve. That's something to consider because even if they did have the liberal joiner policy, i wouldn't want to be in the minority getting women over.

@Mind apartments? Second road soi 4?
I stayed there once only for one night.
Clean and tidy joint. But 2 reasons why I will never stay again.
1. Timber look (read shiny) combined with bed on wheels = a bad idea.
2. 6:00am in the morning some random thai bird rings from reception off her chops yak yakking me. Tell her to beat it and go back to bed.
Next thing she's banging on the door.

Fuckers let her upstairs!!!

The funny thing about first impressions is you don't get a second chance at them!

I've stayed there for week long trips now.

Location - quiet street but little walk to 2nd road and Soi6 just across, there's a McD and other food joints close by if you want a late night snack
No joiner fee
Good restaurant
No 24 hour room service
Good security, can't use lifts or stairs without a room card at night
A lot of young girls sunbathing topless, have only spotted one family there. A look at the registry at night and you won't doubt it to be frequented just by families hehe
Small but clean pool
A mini-mart if you don't fancy a trip to 7/11
Modern interior (lcd tvs)
The bed with wheels on wooden floors bugs me a bit
Unmatched for value (check the current deals on Agoda)

Stayed there myself, seems to have a bit of a mix of customers.

Yes, there were a few Asian families staying there, playing with the kids in the pool. There were tour groups, solo Asian/Western/Russian mongers, and a couple of times a group of Indian lads turned up for a few days.

If you're worried about being watched by happy groups of families with kiddies as you walk your LT back to your room, I wouldn't worry about it. It's a quiet location and reasonable value for the rooms, so you're bound to find a few families checking in.

As commented above, the rooms are a bit modern and minimalist in style, but I had no complaints. The pool is nice and shaded by the buildings for much of the day, so the TG's won't mind going swimming. The little shop on site has the basics in the way of nibbles, drinks, toothpaste etc but isn't a full-blown 7-11. Do-it-yourself laundry also on site if you don't want to use the hotel's own service, and a small massage shop. Easy stroll down to 2nd Rd to catch a moto-sai or baht-bus.

I will say though, the TG's were totally unimpressed with the food from the restaurant and wouldn't eat from there after the first sampling.

I had a nice stay there, but realistically prefer to be closer to LK Metro, which is my usual haunt. It took a few days to get the location of @ Mind down in my head, as bus scooter and bus drivers seemed to have trouble finding the place and needed direction - they usually headed off down Soi 4 Beach Road instead of Soi 4 Second Rd.

Cheers

Thanks Clarky, boob_kook, Perthie for all the observations. The non-refundable deal on Agoda is seductive enough to make me ignore any negatives it might have on location (if any ie). I rather like the midway location of page 10 for example but find myself willing to ignore it because of the @mind Agoda deal. Having said that, I've never had the balls to get myself into a 100% non-refundable deal ever thus far.

I too have been looking for a more central location myself but nothing around that area suits my needs and budget. I actually can't get myself to settle for a regular room after enjoying the suite at @Mind although I miss not having service around the clock. The Centara (CPY) would be worth having a look at, its diagonally opposite @Mind but is known to cater to tourist groups.

Check out Sea Me Spring too, same street as Page 10 (Soi 10). I've heard good things about that place.

Sfiend - I have stayed @Mind on a few occassions...modern studio accommodation. No "family" issues, TGs really like the place. Nice little balcony overlooking the pool. Got a little gym with some OK equipment.

If you like that soi, you might want to consider Nova Gold (just past Jamesons Irish bar)...the best value 4star hotel in Patts and cheaper than @Mind - can recommend it.

I have ridden past Nova Gold and wondered what it was like a few times.

I will have to keep that an option for future trips I think. Thanks.

Guys, Nova Gold location puts some folks off but for others its perfect. Its quite close to soi 6 and second road (5-7 minutes walk), its next to Jamesons Irish bar - 2 pool tables beers and good food, in fact Nova breakfasts are served there. Also laundry and a couple of nice Thai cafes + mototaxi place are next to the hotel. They also have an electric golf buggy to drive you for free to Drinking St/Big C/Second Road/Pattaya Klang.

The quality of the rooms are excellent (see pic), modern bathrooms too + GF of course. The price is outstanding....cheapest 4* in Patts. Staff are very good, friendly and honest) returned money to me which I lost duh!). They also provide a PC in the room.

Small gym, with not bad equipment. My only gripe is that the pool gets no sun.

It has been 18 months since I stayed there (I like to try new hotels). Is it the best?...no, so far the best (for me) is LK Empress, but Nova Gold is half the price. In summary if you want a 4* hotel at 2or3 star prices, and don't have to be near WS or LK Metro, then I would give Nova Gold a whirl.

So tell me more on how LK Empress became your #1. I'm considering it along with Page 10 and Whitehouse Condotel

Thanks man!

So I did a street view of the soi that "at mind" is on. For starters it's about 150-200 meters closer to 2nd road than the pin that Google maps would take you to if you searched there.

Having said that, I never book a room with breakfast because I'm half sure I'd wake up after or pretty close to when breakfast timing ends. It concerns me that it seems like there are no restaurants just steps away. All I could spot are a couple of massage joints and the closest that would need to be walked to for food if I'm not mistaken is soi 6, a good 2-300 meters away. I wonder how doable that will be while famished, if I wanted more choice than the in-house restaurant, and if the free ride karts weren't available at call.

I'm looking more closely now at options more central.

I found the Centara pretty good for breakfast. There's the Jamesons if you walk in the other direction.

Once, you're on second road there are a lot of options within a short distance.

I don't mean to press you about it Boob_kook but is it about a 5 minute walk to 2nd road or more like 10? And how does the free shuttle ride operate exactly in the frequency of trips?

I checked Google Maps for you, they got At Mind at the wrong spot. It is 140 meters from 2nd road. Look at the attached picture. I can see the houses with the red/grey roofs from the living.

A minute and a half at most. I haven't used the free shuttle 'cept once when it was leaving the same time I was (operates 3 times daily), I generally just walk to the second road and catch a baht bus, or get a biketaxi just outside the hotel, there's always 2-3 of them waiting there, more convenient to me.

OK here is my estimate of time taken to walk from second road (brisk pace):

Centara - 2min

@Mind - 4min

Jamesons Pub - 8min

Nova Gold - 10 min

I know that Centara/Nova/Amari groups have a golf cart type shuttle...but have never seen that offered by @Mind...no need really as a few minutes walk to second road.

Buddy i have stayed at at mind four times...

its awesome, room r bigger, new and modern, all of the rooms have a small kitchenette. microwave, refrigerator bowls, spoons, plates every thing in the room itself. get a room with pool view.

No joiner fee buddy. they have in house massage facility as well if u want massage in room, mini mart they have, laundry they have...

Its on 2nd road moo 9, just two minutes walk from second road. if you want to go beach road just walk down to second road, and go on to soi 6, 10 minute walk and you will be there at beach road, you can take tuk tuk from there if u wanna go walking street..

there is a famous pub near to at mind Jamesons, Its board is there on the second road, you can keep in mind while returning to your room at night. Its a green color board of Jamesons pub and you have to take a right from there and walk for two minutes to reach at mind...

A lot of construction noise as of August 1st week, they seem to drilling and laying foundation, some days it got very loud. The rooms in the building at the back of the hotel should be avoided at least.

Posted

If you specify the room in your booking, they'll fit you in as requested if they can. Acting on tips from Trip Advisor, I asked for "Top floor, pool view", which is exactly what they gave me. That way you won't have to deal with any potential noise from the road, and the view is nicer.

Correct that @ Mind is but moments walk from 2nd Road, and there's usually a few moto-sai guys waiting at the 2nd Rd junction. There's also a bar on that corner (I didn't visit it) which must be an interesting joint - we watched a bunch of the girls loading their comatose mate into a baht bus as we walked past the place one night 555.

It's also a quick spin down the road in other direction to get to Central shopping centre.

Cheers

Don't rely on that, it was mentioned in my booking through Agoda and I had one of my LT girls call and request them to make a room on the top floor and main building available but they were packed the entire week. There were people waiting for me to check out so they could get a room, it was that bad. Just a heads-up that requesting particular rooms might not always work!

There's a sunshine beer bar if you head further into Soi AR and a bar at the corner of Soi AR and 2nd road, most of the girls who work there work at Soi 6 during the day. I did have a chat with them while bumming a smoke from a much older gentlemen at 8 a.m. him sipping coffee and me still drinking Jack-Cokes from the previous night, those girls are great company.
