Power Outage with a "Twist"

Sitting in my condo today going about my daily duties when suddenly the power went out(so..whats new, this is Thailand).

I usually sit it out, but this time I thought I would wander downstairs to see what the cause was this time.

On the way down I hear tv's on in other rooms blaring away, and all the lights in the shops downstairs were on.

I also spotted a thai guy that was about to leave the building with a hand full of power meters in his possession.

On seeing that I bolted to the office as fast as I could, because I had a feeling that in his hot little hands was my power meter, and we all know that once these guys depart, its costs money and a long wait for then to return.

On questioning why my power was down, I got a reply..."you not pay your power account".

Actually, I did, the day after it arrived, as I always have done since I moved here 2.5yrs ago.

I asked then to hold the guy with the meters and bolted back upstairs to retrieve the receipt...and what do you know, I found every receipt except for the last one...grrrrr.

I decided to go back down and try paying the bill again, so I could get my meter back.

When I got down there, the girl in the office apologized profusely, she found my payment record so it had been paid.

The problem was that the guy removed the wrong meter, so when my neighbor gets home tonite, he is going to be in total darkness, cos my meter was restored and his(the correct one) was taken down.

Thank f**k I was at home when this happened, otherwise I would have been up for a long outage.

It makes you wonder why they dont have some sort of final notice, before they flick the switch.

Its only been a week since the bill was due, and they do this...lol

Because that would require the use of logical thinking and the service provider to actually care what the customer thinks of them.

I am more amazed that the guy with the meters actually waited while you went upstairs and that the girl in the office made the effort to look for your receipt.

Im on the 2nd floor and bolted, cos I thought he would leave.

The girl in the office knows that I pay my bill on time, so when I was doing my runner upstairs she must have looked into things a bit closer and realised they took the wrong meter :WhoSaw1:

Still it is as stated.  They may say yes and just move on.

Dealing with the guys/gals in the office is good here, the strata management is run by farang residents, they took over the care of the building years ago when the thai management did a runner with all the condo fees and left the building in a bad state of repair.

So the staff in the office are top notch, and dont tend to fob you off like you would think they will do.

Also, being a long term resident, they get to know you personally, so dealing with problems/issues is a breeze :-)

Sophon cut off my internet connection without warning once. I pay it 6 months at a whack and they didn't get a bill to me, so it was easy to forget.

When I called to find out what was going on, the woman said, "We bring you bill 2 times but you not home. We think you move away."

I went to their office, paid the bill and explained to her what a mailbox is. It hasn't been a problem since.

They could have slipped the bill under the door, like they do with water/power...I bet my right nut they didnt even front up with your bill :-)

Because I expect problems I decided to pay my electric bill by Direct Debit. Money was taken yesterday for the latest period but bill not even arrived yet!!!  No doubt if I was not paying by Direct Debit I would be cut off next week.
