Latest news in the UK the Government, are considering a £200 a year charge for non EU residents, for using the NHS so called Health Tourists. Looks like it will be paid on top of the visa fee and what ever visa you apply for and wether you use it or not.. Must be going to be a financial and logistical nightmare for someone to manage

It appears to be a very sensible proposal to me, I dont see why it would be a nightmare to manage if they simply increase the visa fee which they currently collect by £200.

Do you have a link to the source of this information? With the use of the term 'health tourists' it sounds like it is not aimed at those seeking normal tourist visas. If this is the case it sounds like a good way of turning away lots of good tourist money. I have read that some people in Thailand have been advocating a similar scheme.

It is how I thought. Only 'foreign workers and students in the UK for more than half a year' are being targeted. It would appear that normal tourists will not pay this surcharge if it is implemented.

This one seems to report that the marriage visa will be affected, and only persons on indefinite leave to remain will not be charged, so such as my wife who only as further leave to remain will have to pay , even though she is paying NI Contributions on her salary http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/health-23156403

I think you are reading too much into it. It doesn't mention anything about partners being affected. Still looks to me that it is aimed at those who are likely to only remain in the UK for a limited amount of time (eg foreign workers and students). As your wife is 'contributing to the system in the same way as British taxpayers' she is not being targeted.

Agree with this, that would mean that the tourist UK visa fee currently 3860 baht would rise by an extra 10,000 baht, which is more than a 2 year tourist visa currently.

I believe that for standard tourists going to the UK who are non EU the surcharge will not be applicable,

Thanks for keep posting Neil it is great to hear about your experiences in the UK which most keep to themselves so you are helping us all, cheers,

asking foreignerns to pay more in the UK. I am sorry but I cant see this one happening. There will be some sort of human rights rule that wont let it happen. After all, its only British people that get kicked in the teeth in the UK. This will be deemed as racism and scrapped.
