UK National Insurance No for Thai Wife

Featured Replies

Just applied for a NI no for the missus, good news its free, at the moment, way things are going I will doubt it will be free forever. Made an appointment, like everything else, theirs a regional office, you cant do it locally. Ours is Leeds Job Centre on Eastgate. They would not let me be present with her, during the interview, unless I could translate for them or for her. They did get her a translator by phone, and asked her the usual questions, why, what and when. After a 90 mins, they have issued her one, takes 2 - 5 weeks, nothing ever straight forward in the UK,

nothing ever straight forward in the UK,

For us it was a piece of piss...

Phone up, they send you a form.

Fill it in, include copies of passport.

Few days later NI number arrived in the post.

Sounds like you were dealt with by a bunch of muppets.

  • 4 weeks later...

yes same here, phoned up got form filled it in, sent i back got number about 2 weeks later

We had to attend the office in Harrogate together but it was just a formality and my wife had her number in under a week.  Only problem that we had was her date of birth wouldn`t go into the computer as it was the Thai year!  and they thought she would be born sometime in the future.  That sorted it was easy and quick.

Maybe alot has changed now, I know soon all the benefit forms are going to be amalgamated on to one standard form as a friend of mine told me who works for the DWP, to save paper time and to get rid of staff.

He said it will cause havoc especially for the guys living in LOS on benefits, lets see what happens
