        PAUL Gascoigne has been arrested for allegedly belting ex-wife Sheryl in a drunken rage on a train platform.

The soccer legend, 46, is also said to have manhandled a station guard.

Police took him to a nick in Stevenage, Herts.

Gascoigne was bailed yesterday after sickeningly falling off the wagon again.

The chronic alcoholic was seized by cops just months after he tearfully vowed in The Sun never to touch a drop again.

A platform guard who rushed to try to calm him as he screamed obscenities was allegedly grabbed by the neck.

Gazza spent “several hours” at a Hertfordshire nick under arrest for common assault and being drunk and disorderly before being released early yesterday pending inquiries.

Last night a pal described the ex-England idol’s family as “in pieces” at him hitting the bottle again — four months after booze almost killed him.

The chum said: “We thought he was clean this time and getting his life back on track.”

Stunned passengers saw “very drunk” Gazza having a blazing row with blonde mum-of-three Sheryl, 47, on the platform at Stevenage station.

He is thought to have been in tow as she changed trains en route from London’s King’s Cross to Aberdeen. He then allegedly lashed out.

Other station staff are said to have helped the guard to detain him as police were called at 10.30pm on Thursday.

The former Newcastle, Spurs and Lazio midfielder — who has remained friends with the ex-wife he describes as his rock — was described as “clearly agitated” when hauled to the local police station.

British Transport Police, who are now spearheading the investigation, said of the man arrested: “He was taken into custody and was later bailed to return, pending inquiries.”

Sheryl — who has appeared on TV’s Loose Women and I’m A Celebrity... Get Me Out Of Here — wed Gazza in 1996. He adopted her two children from her previous marriage — Bianca and Mason — and the couple went on to have a son, Regan.

After just two years they divorced. The ex-WAG went on to write a book about how he used to treat her — but has stood by him in his vain battle to beat the bottle.

In March Gazza returned sobbing from a US drying-out clinic telling how he was so weak he almost died there.

He made an emotional vow in The Sun: “It has got to inspire me never to let this happen again.

“I can’t keep saying sorry to people for letting everyone down again. Actions speak louder than words.”

Hours after he was released from custody yesterday, Gazza was spotted back at King’s Cross by a fan who told of him “smoking a cigarette in the back of a taxi”.

Last night Sheryl was back at her luxury £800,000 converted farmhouse in a village near Berkhamsted in Hertfordshire.

She appeared to be alone — and refused to comment.

Addiction has really ruined Gazza - despite several visits to rehab he is stil causing trouble.

Funny you should say this because I'd never heard of Paul Gascoigne until these forums. 

Apparently he used to be a really good soccer (football in England) player but I only know him for is drunken misbehaving.

Seems that he has a really knack for getting himself into trouble.

Yeah Bestie and Gazza were both class footballers and alcoholics. But there ends the similarities. Bestie was a humerous and articulate character (when not totally legless) and some of his quotes were as legendary as his football skills;

 

"Ive spent a lot of money on booze, birds and cars. The rest I just squandered".
