Visit Khao Phra Yai Enjoy The Panoramic View Of Pattaya

For the first trip of this week, we recommend a visit to pay homage to the Statue of HRH Prince of Jumborn, the father of the Royal Thai Navy, and pay respect to “Luang Phor Yhai”, the Buddha image widely idolized by Pattaya residents, at Wat Phra Yai. These destinations are two of the top tourist destinations in Pattaya City, drawing an endless stream of visitors throughout the year.

The Statue of HRH Prince of Jumborn is situated on the top of the hill of Khao Phra Tamnak or Khao Phra Baht (also known as Pattaya Hill and Khao Sor Thor Ror 5). It is also where the Royal Thai Navy broadcasting station (FM 104.75 MHz) is located.

Many visitors come to pay homage to HRH Prince of Jumborn, known affectionately to the locals as “Sadej Tia”, to ask for his blessings. Some even ask for his spirit to grant their wishes and help bless their livelihoods and safety. The proper ritual for paying respect to the prince requires 19 lit incense sticks, red roses, firecrackers, a set of betel nuts and leaves, offerings and fruits.

In addition to being the site where Statue of HRH Prince of Jumborn is located, the Khao Sor Thor Ror 5 hill is also known as the Pattaya View Point, which draws tourists who come to admire the best panoramic view of the curved bay of Pattaya and drink in the scenic beauty of Pattaya City. Pattaya View Point is open for visitors from 7.00 hrs to 22.00 hrs daily.

Located not too far from the View Point is “Wat Phra Yai” temple, where one can go to pay respect to the Buddha image of Phra Buddha Sukhothai Walai Chonlath, known among the locals as “Luang Phor Yhai”. The temple was built back in 1977, and features the image of Phra Buddha Sukhothai Walai Chonlath (measuring 5 Wa and 9 inches wide, and 9 Wa and 9 inches high). In addition to the image of Luang Phor Yhai, the temple also has a variety of other Buddha images situated around its premises.
