I am in a hurry, need to be in Thailand in about 3 weeks. I will be moving there permanently to live with my very well off Thai girlfriend and do a bit of work here and there! What visa do I need?

 

I have looked into it and I know the obvious tourist visa only allows tourisim (and boom boom) lol but the B visa seems to be what i'm looking for but I need to show an invitation letter etc.

 

Is there any visa I can get that will allow me an extended stay in the country (Yes I know about visa runs) and work when I can?

 

What should I do? Please its urgent.

So you mean like just look through this forum? I have done that and have not found the answer! The only thing I can find is that to apply for a non-immigrant B Visa you need supporting documents of who will employ you in Thailand.

You don't say where you're from but from my experience in the UK, unless you have a job offer from a company, all the correct documents  and intend to obtain a work permit you will not get a B visa. Just get a Tourist visa, ED visa or if over 50 an O visa. You can't just work as and when in Thailand, unless you do so illegally.

I have one more question. I'm intending to arrive on the 21st and then will be going with the girl to China for 5 days on August 1st. How would that hold up with the visa? I know they generally expire upon leaving thailand? What would re-entry 5 days later be like?

As you seem very well organized I'll assume you already checked the Thai embassy home page in Ireland http://www.thaiconsulateireland.com/ for information on which travel documents is required in your future new country?

No prob, enter on 30 day tourist visa and the trip to Chine is just the one visa run you'll need.

Thanks for the reassurance I have checked the website. This forum as basically my last stop after reading through a lot of documents. I would love to be able to get the Non-Immigration B Multi Entry one but you need documents for that to show you already have employment etc. Seems like too much work. I was really looking to get that to be comfortable for a year and seek work but it can't work that way :/

It is not too much work. It is just not for dreamers

 

To get a non immigrant B visa you need a current work permit. This means you already have a job and have jumped through all of the necessary hoops to get one including coming in on your initial single entry non imm, B. I am in Australia and have the paperwork with me to renew mine. 38 pages  - right down to audited accounts for the company. Still technically have to leave every 90 days so no better than a 90 day multi entry tourist visa which are not hard to get.

 

BTW unless you are highly skilled and have at least a degree your chances of getting a job and then the precious work permit are very slim if you want anything other than teaching.

Well firstly if you have a  "very well off Thai girlfriend" why are you asking we peasants. 

 

Money talks in Thailand and she will know or have connections we dream of.

get an ED visa upon arrival in patts. good for 1 year, many options. call my visa advisor ann at 085 396 3903

Coming in late July for a few days..... don't waste a visa... Visa exemption stamp will do.. Head to China... If you have time there,  get A TV , that will do to come back to Thailand.. you will have 60 days + plus an option of a 30 day extension to sort out your long term visa.

As another guy said, the ED visa is an attractive option... and you get to learn stuff as well...  The good thing about the ED visa, is there are no visa runs, just 90 day reporting, and is good for a year, and can be renewed yearly... a little bit pricey, sure... but is a solid option imo.

i'm an expat sinince few month, at my side, the best choice is the ED visa (student)

actually i was here already with my tourist visa, so i go prepare all the papers in the visa shop (Pattaya Tai, just before sukhumvit, turn right, i will find back the name)

 

i paid 17 000 bath for 1 year visa+170 hours of school

 

so i give them pictures, passeport, that's it, after few days, they give you all the papers you need, and you have to go to Thai ambassy in your country. (you can also do it in Laos, or whatever, just out from thailand)

 

after that, you get the Visa, and you can stay in Thailand.

 

CAREFUL : one thing, people made this mistake a lot, you can go out of thailand as you wish, when you want, even if you have your visa. Just before you leave the country, go back to your visa shop, take a paper (its like an authorisation for be able to leave the kingdom and keep your visa)

you go with that to Chonburi immigration, in jomtiem, you make it stamp, and thats it, once you reach Airport, just give it to the customs with your passeport, like that they will not cancel your visa !

Do you have to go back to the agent because it's an Ed' Visa?

 

To get a Re-entry stamp in your Passport for most of us it's just straight to Jomtien, fill in a form and pay 1000 Baht for a Single or 3800 for a Multi - no separate paper to show Immi'.

yeah you right ! i just speak about the form ^^ if you don't have one, or if in immigration don't have to, you can get some in your school/ shop

 

i always worry about everything so just for make sure ;)

If research on Pattaya nightlife and sex techniques ( which can later be used in the high socity) qualify for a ED visa we have a win-win

OP have a read of this site or can read www.keyvisathailand.com but before coming to live here good research is the way forward
