How can I get to Thailand?

Hi guys

I traveled with Virgin last year (not Thailand) and my flight was delayed 24 hours. As compensation, Virgin issued me a free return ticket (along with 5 star hotel overnight stay, free beer, food etc. Was great!)

That ticket expires June 1st 2014. It is *only* valid on journeys which Virgin operate, direct, and single destination. A to B to A

I don't plan going anywhere other than Thailand, in either Q4 '13 or Q1 '14

Sadly Virgin do not fly to Bangkok. As per the website, they do hope to one day, but not in the near future. I've called them up to confirm this

What is the cheapest way for me to get to BKK using my Virgin direct ticket from LHR? I say cheap, because I'm not a CC but if going from X to BKK to X (then X to LHR) ends up costing close to a cheapish LHR to BKK flight, I may as well travel to BKK outright on a new ticket and use this Virgin one elsewhere, like the US etc

I hope this makes sense!

Cheers

Add me to the "fly to Hong Kong" list -- it's less than a 3 hour flight from there to BKK.

VERY cool airport if you have to kill some time -- I would be sure to build in plenty of connection time OR consider spending a night there and checking Hong Kong out.  Since you're not flying on the same ticket/itinerary, I think you're screwed if you miss your connection.

Thanks a lot for the replies

After a bit more investigation it seems its a toss up between Hong Kong as suggested..or Delhi. I see a number of operators fly Delhi to BKK

Also I've been to Delhi airport before and there's a hotel inside the airport which could be handy if I can't / choose not to fly on straight away

I suppose the best value this ticket has is using it at the most expensive destination...during the most expensive time to travel?! Maybe I'll flog it :D

That's NOT a toss up. If you fly to Delhi you'll regret it. Fly to HKG and connect from HKG to BKK.

From HKG, you can take Air Asia. I did a random search. It's just under USD$50 all in flying on Jul 26 from HKG to Thailand.

Buy a ticket to BKK... use your Virgin ticket to fly to Orlando Florida...  then go to Disneyland for the rides.

:Think1:     Oh wait...   :SoWhat1:

You are looking for a different kind of ride.   Sorry....

Hi LL2M , I am travelling a lot but mostly in Asia quite a few time to BKK and a few times a year to India,What I have found to be the best and cheapest way of getting around is to book direct with the airlines ,You can check different dates when they have promos etc.To find out which Airlines are flying on the destinations you want just google ie say Delhi to Bangkok which will bring up just about all of the Airlines flying that route nowadays, with my laptop and my credit card I am my own travel agent and I pick the best flights for me and usually get pretty good flights too. A few airlines that come to mind that do DELHI TO BKK are Jet Airways ,GoIndigo I bought a return tckt a few months ago Bangkok to Delhi cost me around US$250 a four hour flight time.If you do stop in india also need an Indian Visa .I usually check out all the pros and cons by doing a bit of research on line .Using this method  I have picked up some great tickets .I am based in bali so some examples are Bali to Bangkok with Air Asia US $60 , Kuala Lumpur return to Melbourne nov returning in Jan US$430 ,March 2014 KL to melb return US$250 These bookings were with bigger seats too which add a bit to the cost.  September I have tickets Kuala Lumpur to Kulkutta less than US $200 return and from Jogyakart to Singapore US $30 all of these tckts are with Air Asia If you check out their website especially when they have sales can get some good deals.Unfortunately they stopped flying BKK to Delhi

Apologies if I have wandered a bit off topic ,hope this helps a bit in working out what to do

Cheers   Jon
