Obtaining O visa from UK

Advice please - 2 years ago I obtained an O multiple entry from the UK...I am over 50, financially secure and a very generous pension. I was in and out of the Liverpool consulate in 10 minutes with my visa. Since then, I have been working in Sydney p/t and living in Thailand (Issan) p/t, and the Sydney Consulate will only grant me a 60 day tourist visa - this has not caused any probs to date.

Circumstances have now changed and I will be working in Aus less frequently, I am going to the UK in a few weeks and thought I would pick up another O visa in Liverpool. However a golfing buddy has just told me that the visa rules have changed and that I won't get one unless I am married. Is this true???

Being legally married is the main qualification now I understand.

Owning a business here and/or a condo' also help.

I pondered getting one myself recently, but on the basis of what's on Hull's website, I concluded that I wouldn't get one.

I emailed but got no answer.

I've been told that some of the more 'obscure' Consulates like Birmingham and Glasgow haven't read about the rule changes yet.

Lottellee,

Hull consulate is the way to go.

Download the forms from their website.  http://www.thaiconsul-uk.com/downloads-and-visas.aspx

Show you have a good income (bank statements highlighting the money going in each month).

Send forms to Hull consulate and they will be back within a week nice new 1 year O visa.

If it flies, floats or fucks - it will be cheaper to rent !

Hi Buddy, thanks for the Hull link...I don't forsee any problems now -

6) Visiting Thailand as Retired Person aged between 50 and 64 years

Evidence required

:

a) Copy of Bank Statement showing income of minimum £1200 per month or lumpsum of minimum £20,000

Either a single or multiple entry visa can be granted in these circumstances

Multi entry is £125 plus £10 postage

I have just had a look at the Liverpool Consulate website...it is very different and does not include the advice for those 50-64 that Hull gives.

Lottellee,

Hull are really excellent and very quick by post.  They say 7 days by post but it has never been more than 4 for me.

Given that the One Year Multiple Entry 'O' Visa you're talking about is always multiple and never single, I wonder why it says Single - Tourist Visa?

Maybe I'm confused and there are special rules now for retirees to get these.

Anyway, that isn't the section I was referring to so please let us know how you get on.

When did you last get one Seedy?

There are lots of reports of Hull tightening up within the past year or so, though admittedly not necessarily from over 50s.

@ LW - No doubt KVT knows for sure, so why not ask him?    :GoldenSmile1:

Here's the link Thaivisa gives  HERE

2.1 The applicants must submit the following relevant documents depending on the purpose of their visit.     - Visa application form completely filled out     - Passport or travel document with validity not less than 6 months. The validity of 18 months is required for one year visa application.

- (4 x 6 cm) protograph of the applicant, taken within the past six months

- Evidence of adequate finance ( 20,000 Baht per person and 40,000 Baht per family )

- Birth Certificate ("O")

    - Certifcate of Marriage or its equivalents ("O")

etc etc

As you said, "amazing".

I see that even KVT was surprised.

Maybe they have changed the requirements for over 50s (are you?) but I know quite a few guys have been refused in the past year or so, in UK and Australia.

I had just reached 50 for the latest one, but the first one I was under 50 but retired.

The rules didn't change. Certain consulates ignored some of the requirements of the non-imm O visa (for those under 50) and where issuing them to any idiot who applied. If you had of looked at their websites at the time (as I did) they stated that a marriage certificate was required for that visa. However, when applying they never asked for it. That stopped all of a sudden, presumably when they where told to pull their heads in by the powers that be.

Lottellee I know the Hull Consulate very well and Seedy is correct, being married does help and is stated that it is for married purposes.

But if you are over 50 years and you have either the 800,000 baht in a Thai bank or the equivalent in a UK bank or an income of 65,000 baht per month then the visa will be no problems. It is just showing the same financial attribute for a retirement visa.

The rules have tightened up and maybe in Aus because you have a UK passport made a difference I am not sure, make sure you take bank statements or pension details with you or post with your application and you will be fine.

I agree Hull is the place to go...I am a financially secure UK pensioner , I sent the forms ,downloaded online, to Hull by Special Delivery on a Monday,

and couldn't believe it when the postman knocked my door Wednesday morning ,with my 12 month O visa sitting nicely in my passport.

From my experience in Australia and Malaysia I would say that it is possible if you are in the city. I know in Perth (when it was open) they stated that you had to spend at least one night in the city for them to issue a visa.
